Games are played on the court, not on paper. Siakam was a 2 star prospect, Ian Baker, 2 stars, Lofton 2 stars, and Jermerio Jones, 2 stars. We have had many 3+ stars that have been a big bust so don't get to to happy just yet.
Show me one GCU fan who is ready to say WAC championship is automatically theirs because of stars. Sounds like an Aggie fan move to me. Now, if we change all of these commitments to NMSU, I can hardly imagine the chest thumping that would be going on:
- i'm sure we'd have thread upon thread of YouTube highlight videos and proclamations of WAC POY frontrunner for at least half of them.
- We'd be told time and again about Michael Finke was contacted by 60 schools, had 15 in-home visits, and still chose NMSU over the likes of Stanford, Vanderbilt, Penn State, and Nevada.
- We'd have to comsistently hear about Carlos Johnson & Isiah Brown like they are some kind of boogey men for the entire year they have to sit, like we did will AJ Harris.
- We'd be constantly reminded about the high school accolades of Tim Finke & JUCO accolades of Rhymes.
- Jans would be crowned among NMSU's all-time greatest recruiters.
- SURELY the Aggies would be proclaimed WAC champions for the 2018-19 season, and probably far beyond.
- We would all be thought foolish or "purple kool-aid drinkers" for expecting otherwise.
If I am misreading the situation and nobody thinks any of this would be going on here if the shoe were on the other foot, please let me know and I'll pull this down. As it stands, I don't think I've seen anything other than reasonable excitement about signing talented players from GCU fans. We leave the insecurity masked as bravado to other fans bases.
