Each of them is different type of troll. Miko is the classic attention whore, NoDak is the loony conspiracy theorist, and DavidSt the clueless ****-poster. All of them are amusing in their own way.

Based on all the studies that the Big12 have completed over the past year, the conference decided that the best way to add value to their brand and payouts is to contract to 9 schools. The word is that they can generate an increase in $12 mil/school by booting one school. I'll provide more info as I get it.

You're welcome.

Someone got a head start on today's festivities, eh? But anyway, hope they didn't pay too much for that study. Wouldn't basic math suggest that contraction would be the best way to increase revenue per school. It's like a pizza, right. If you cut the pizza for 8 people, each person gets more than if there were 12 people. Don't believe me? Try it with your next DiGiorno or Red Baron.

You're welcome.

There are two components to conference tv value you have to remember. The first is the glitz and glamor of your blueblood media darlings. The second, newly emerging component is volume of content. Conferences must also bring plenty of content for streaming and tier 3 conference networks

The last part is the key - this forum would be poorer without any of them. 07-coffee3

DavidSt seems sincere so I’ve never been bothered by his posts. I don’t agree with most of NoDak’s predictions but he shares a lot of factual information and occasionally real news which I appreciate.

I’m not a big fan of Miko’s cons. I found them occasionally entertaining during the Big 12 expansion derby, but he has less raw material to work with now and his shtick is wearing a little thin.

I concur with your analysis with one exception. Miko's satire is really more about expressing his displeasure with today's priorities which he finds shallow and wholly misguided. His threads are a like a trumpet pitcher with a Rorschach ink blot to interpret. They attract the very ones he intends to lampoon, and then he lets them expose themselves with their assumptions.

How this thread devolved into talking about posters I don't know. But to do so is really a violation of board policy. All three of the posters being ridiculed, or defended, are unique individuals. And most of those doing the ridiculing tend to find security in group approval, while most of those doing the defending tend to be self reliant persons who value individualism. It's precisely the outcome a classic Miko thread would seek, but this time it was more of an unintended serendipity that the group thinkers used it to attack people.

As a sociologist this kind of activity is usually a harbinger for the loss of civil liberties. And at no point in my long life have I seen as much "group think security" coming out of Americans than I do right now. Part of that is from the polarization of the political system and part of it is the byproduct of the social isolationism of our new tech world. People feel good when they get likes so loving and hating the things the group loves and hates is more important than valuing the uniqueness of anything or anyone. The world hasn't seen anything like it since........Mao's Red Guard, the Young Pioneers, and the Hitler Youth.

Thread closed. Kudos to you HawaiiMongoose! I'm proud somebody stood up to the bullying. Next time I see this there will be some bans handed out with no warning.
