Herring should be the starter, but even if Mo gives him the chance his leash will be too short. I expect to see Mo put Ahlers in by the middle of the 2nd qtr and then we're in for a repeat of last year's QB shuffle.

I would be pissed if Mo burns Ahlers's redshirt for the Mo dumpsterfire.

Be prepared to be pissed. I would be stunned if Holton doesn't play.

I want Ahlers to have 4 years playing for our new coach.

You can want whatever you'd like, but if you are Mo are you really going to not play Ahlers in what is 100% your make or break year? Of course not. Only way Holton doesn't play is if he either gets hurt or Herring is somehow playing at a high enough level to save Mo's job.

Record really doesn't matter, it's bowl or unemployment for Mo.

Thinking along the same lines. I believe we see some improvement. He’s recruited some good players. Thinking 5-7, 6-6. Not sure about the o line though just like everyone else. They hold up I think we have some players to get us there. I don’t think Holton gets his redshirt burned to jump Kingsley or Reid either. They are both capable and have been in the system. Holton just started learning it in the Spring. I just don’t see it but I’ve been wrong many times.

I don't even need to run the numbers to realize that voters think ECU will go 3-9... at best.

Obviously some people didn't understand that they were supposed to pick ALL of the teams ECU would beat... right? Maybe next time ask who they think ECU will LOSE to? (or maybe not? I just remembered I picked ECU to go 4-8, with a chance to beat UNC at home for 5-7).

Well that's if you believe Holton really is the second best QB. I tend to think he won't be. It would be a very good thing for everyone if Herring is good enough that you can redshirt Holton, I just don't believe he will be.

A&T
ODU
UConn
Cincy
Tulane

Can possibly beat UNC and Temple, the rest are not realistic imo.

I want to believe we are better but honestly I'm not even sure I feel great about the A&T game.

I think he finally has the staff right but it may be too little too late. I really hope if he gets fired that the new coach keeps David Blackwell around. I think he can be a top notch DC.

Pretty much agree on the above listed teams. My unprofessional odds of winning:
A&T 75%
ODU 75%
UConn 50%
Cincy 35%
Tulane 45%
UNC 50%
Temple 25%
Basically looking at a new defensive coach and schemes with the same talent level. New quarterback that we know almost nothing about. Odds will go up or down based on what's waiting at the bottom of the Cracker Jack box. Who knows, if ECU comes out of the gate killing it, we might have a 50/50 chance by the time Houston and UCF come to town. But there's only a 10% chance of that.

You mean to tell me a 2 win improvement is OVERLY OPTIMISTIC? More experienced OL, by all accounts a better situation at calling plays on defense, and from what it looks like more solid qb play.

Don't get it twisted, there is TONS of room for improvement all around, and I got to see it against an live opponent and not a scrimmage.

Well first and foremost, NC A&T and ODU are the obvious ones...

then you hope UNC or VT are caught off guard... probably UNC of the two.

So 3-1 absolute best case scenario..

After that you have to actively root for the scenario where several teams are behind schedule in their own rebuilds. Cincinnati, UConn, Tulane, Temple. I just don't see Memphis, Houston, or UCF losing to ECU. Maybe USF if they don't manage to find a QB and the Strong factor just doesn't work.

We're not rebuilding.

Hate ECU and Cincy being bad. Both have amazing stadiums & fan bases.
Both would be rocking with good teams.

That's what I'm saying. The wins are there at the end of the season to get ECU to your 5-7 projection, but there is no room for error with Cincy and Tulane on the road. A season opening loss to A&T could easily lower the ceiling to 2 wins.

A more experienced OL doesn't necessarily mean a better OL, and from what I've heard they aren't any better. The defense is better, but that won't matter if the offense can't sustain drives. As for the QB situation, I really think Mo will let Herring start the A&T game, but if it looks like a repeat of last year's JMU game he's going to pull Herring and play Ahlers before he is ready.
