RE: Northwestern's New Indoor Facility
That's a hell of a view for a football practice facility.
Many of their sports facilities have that same type of a view and I remember thinking to myself "probably better to put expensive lake view dorms here than a pool (and now, a football facility.)"

Really nice..... Might be the nicest facility in the nation. Evanston has seen a major makeover because of NU.

Holy crap. That is nothing short of spectacular! Kudos to NW.

Northwestern Endowment: 10.5 billion
NIU Endowment: 75 million
I live by Evanston, I'm there all the time..they are spending like krazy and it still won't dent their endowment.
So...I've seen it..and it's nicer than the pictures if u can believe that. My question is...how do you psych up to practice a tough physical nasty game like football when you're in a palace like this? I SAY it softens them up!!! :)

Get rid of the windows and it's just like Chessick - an indoor practice field. Put a few extra windows in Chessick and the players can get a beautiful view of the dorms. And the Chessick costs a hell of a lot less than NU's palace to meditate over the lake.

Dramatic, but certainly no more useful than ours. The ceiling height actually looks pretty low over the one sideline...
Nice they are managing to catch up with us facility-wise in any case

they are not low. its like 40' at the side line, 80' in the peak of the dome.
the rest of the facility has full football and olympic sports 'stuff' in there...training areas, cafeteria, locker rooms, offices, position meeting auditoriums, etc etc. very functional but also very high end.

It also helps to be in the BIG conf which brings in lots of TV money and bowl money..NW gets plenty of payback despite their poor attendance (relative to many of the Power 5 teams)..Their big attendance games are the like of Wisc, Mich, Ohio State with tons of visiting fans...
And of course their alumni base has many upper income...

NIU = Good attendance game as well. God forbid they make that a regular thing...

I've seen a special on the best, most expensive facilities years ago.Pretty much the SEC. I remember Oregon and Alabama looked like 5 star resorts. They do pretty well, are tough enough.
But I will say it's pretty easy to gaze out the window for a time.

If the Huskies are ever going to go to another BCS bowl game, they need to get a tiered spa room with a large flat screen TV and built in waterfalls, or I do not see how they will be able to compete.

And, please don't forget, that bowl game MUST be in a warm Southern city with beaches!
