SBNation AAC Preview: ECU - Scott Montgomery needs a miracle

It's that time of year again folks. Bill Connelly has done his reviews for the G4 so far, and now it's the AAC's turn, in reverse S&P+ order, ECU is first on deck. I haven't read it yet, but I don't expect it to be very flattering for our salty, scurvy raiders of the great state of East Carolina.

I haven't read it and won't, but I bet you are right. From what I've seen the past 2 seasons, it would be a miracle if he turns things around.

Here is my prediction: If A&T beats us Sept 1st, Mo is unemployed Sept. 2nd.

article says the same thing

Quote:S&P+ projects the Pirates 125th and gives them a better than 26 percent chance of winning in just three games. If they fall to NC A&T in the season opener — the two were basically even in last year’s Sagarin ratings — Montgomery could be out of a job by the end of September. The negative spin feels more based in reality, but hey, miracles happen.

Hahaha I was so sad that he didn't make a mention of it. It's pretty much just a dot with a middle finger pointed right at the former ECU AD

I have a feeling that Tulane won't be a gimme this year. It's time for Willie Fritz to do his thing.

I totally agree with you on this. Tulane is going to surprise some teams this year. I only hope Memphis isn't one of them 04-cheers

To be honest it's an uphill climb for Scottie to make it. We will be better next season no question. New DC is making strides and we will be a lot better on defense. We also have brought in a lot of DB talent and the LB's very much improved under Blackwell. The Real opportunity is in oline if we stay healthy at center with Spellacy. They will have an experienced group with great size up front. QB isn't a big an issue as many think. What the issue for Scottie is our schedule. We have the most difficult non conference schedule in our league again. So we will be better, but I think the schedule will take Scottie's job which is unfortunate because offseason decisions along with recruiting has gone very well.

This publication actually has ECU being way worse than last year....the 6th worst team in the nation behind only UTEP, SJSU, Rice, Charlotte and Kent St.
Edit* Uconn is actually ranked 1 spot ahead of ECU.

They give us a 66% chance of beating A&T. I think that is probably too high.

I feel good about UCONN improving this year, winning 4-6 games. I think this is Mo's last year.

If we lose to A&T, I expect that we our actual attendance for the rest of the year will be about 10-15K/game.

RE: ***SBNation AAC Preview: ECU - Scott Montgomery needs a miracle***
I think too much weight is given to the quarterback situation. At 24.9 ppg we ranked 94th in FBS. If some o-line improvements are made, any half-competent quarterback should be able to at least match that. Defense literally can't get worse than 129th.

Mo guaranteed a bowl immediately after the Memphis game. Hard to see a route to winning 6 games. We have a tough schedule, but it's not all rock solid. Here's my list of best chances to win. No particular order.

1. NC A&T - We would never lose to an FCS school. Right?
2. UNC - Holes won 2 FBS games last year. This game is in Greenville.
3. ODU - G4 five game winner comes to town. One of the Holes 2 FBS wins.
4. Cincinnati - We beat them last year, but this one's a road game.
5. UConn - Also beat them last year, this one's at home.
6. Tulane - Lost in OT last year. Another road game.

Prediction: 4-8, Mo says goodbye.
Imploration: Oh Lord we beseech thee and ask that thou look down upon your meek and wretched servants pitiably. Our coach is a good man working hard, and is also a Dukie who hates the Holes. Be it your will that we win one game this year, may you in your infinite wisdom bring down judgement and smite the Holes with your divine wrath. Amen

Edit: Changed prediction from 3-9 to 4-8

The ECU-UCONN game will likely be decided in the final possession.
