Idaho may drop three sports or may add three more -budget difficulties
http://amp.idahostatesman.com/sports/col...ssion=true
Sports cut would be w soccer, w swimming, and m golf. But Idaho would have to add sand volleyball and women’s triathlon for Title IX.
But if a budget waiver is allowed, Idaho would add men’s swimming, w triathlon, and rifle.
Really hurts to lose the CFP payout.

Chuck Staben may have won the war, but that historic night in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl where the Vandals whipped out a 41-7 lead in a dismantling of heavily favored Colorado Sate with (F)ire ©huck (S)taben signs and banner planes waving sky high will go down for the history books.

But ... But ... Chuck Staben told me no sports would be dropped when we moved to FCS. I, for one, am SHOCKED.

Idaho could do great things if financial gymnastics was a sport.

By the way, the three sports we would "add" are non-scholarship. We might as well have said we're adding intramural quidditch to offset the 3 scholarship sports we'll drop.

Quote:Eliminating three sports would remove an estimated 65 students from the university. Adding sports would bring in 60 students, for a net difference of 125 students.
Mathfail.

The way I am reading it is if the sports are added, nothing is cut as well -ie not replacements, which would indeed be a difference of 125 students.

Ah, OK. I read it as -65 + 60 = -5. The net difference is 5 and the gross difference is 125.

Agree, that is just another CSU post season fail.

Seems like it would have been a good time for Staben to bring up the Great Northern plan and avoid all this fuzzy math.

So, by cutting 3 revenue losing sports and adding 3 sports w/o schollies, adds $1 million in revenue from tuition. Seems like a good move to me.
But having declining enrollment sure hurts not getting those student fees.
Funny, I haven't heard Idaho St having issues .

You haven't been listening hard enough. Idaho State, as a school, is a mess. Basically all of Idaho higher ed other than the Boise St. athletic department is not in very good shape right now.

Idaho has to add sports after cutting three. They would be lower than the DI minimum so they have to add. Adding three non-scholarship sports puts them back in the game for FBS, if they have a conference. The Great Northern is coming.

Lol are you kidding me, you mean the Idaho St. who just had an alumni booster rebellion calling for the president and AD to be removed? The one who's coaches pay, fundraising, facilities, and revenue sport success is among the worst in the Big Sky? The one who had a budget shortfall and thus has to schedule two body bag games a year to make up for it all while making less money than it did 10 years ago? I would say those are fairly big "issues".

Idaho State is not having financial issues as they have played finances close to the vest for years, it also has reflected tight finances on the field. They play 2 body bag games a year in football. Hopefully they can get more competitive on the field . I am optimistic as the new president was the COO at Boise.

Inspiring words from Chuck Staben: https://twitter.com/chaddcripe/status/98...3974040576
Honestly, I don't understand why we would bother to have an expensive athletic department if this is what we're planning to do with it. The entire university is being run like Kruger Industrial Smoothing. I expect George Costanza to be hired as our next AD.

Just my humble opinion:
All need to merge, as has been done in the past (e.g., Texas and TAMU systems), into one institution. But work with the NCAA beforehand to see if there's a way to divide the major sports out to only particular campuses, e.g., "The University of Idaho, Boise campus" is where football is played, etc.
Then Idaho might be very attractive to the PAC or others, or at least will be an even stronger member of the MWC.

Doesn’t sound like an athletic department just waiting to jump back into a new FBS Great Northern Conference.

The Great Northern Conference will be in existence in 2 weeks.
