RE: Norton to transfer
He could have a great year or two & still be on the hot seat considering the lack of NCAA bids the league gets.

The two players responsible for that problem is now gone. To say there is no way possible to find positives simply means you aren't looking for positives. They will be replaced with better talent, I believe.
There've been chemistry issues for several years, dating at least to the Laptop Thrower. Upperclassmen don't redshirt just because. Talent's not enough, as Mike Davis proved.

I think he has bought himself some time with all the turnover and the talent he’s bringing in. As long as it’s not an abysmal season next year, he’ll be fine. I’d say he’s 2 seasons away from being on the hot seat.
I am not sure he gets more time (from a fan perspective) with the turnover. As it is not clear if he was a catalyst for it or a victim of it.

Norton also was probably good buddies with Lee & Cokley who are now gone.

You are correct. I believe he was roommates with Lee.

He's on the hot seat right now. That's why you see all these changes. He knows he has to get it turned around and fast. We averaged 3,300 this season and while this recruiting class is good, it's not so good as to bring in new fans or bring back the old ones.
If we come out slow again and attendance deteriorates further, his seat is going to get very hot very quick. He might just get two more years no matter, this is UAB, but I think he better show some serious improvement in Year 3. Coach Clark is showing that UAB can and should expect better.

I agree. I don't think that the player turnover has extended his window at all.
If he makes staff adjustments to attempt to address the defensive scheme issues or even to simply show he is actually aware there is an issue, then he may buy himself a small amount of extended time without the torch being turned up to high.
His plan, whatever it may be, better show significant dividends pretty quickly if he wants to remain here longer than another season or two.

You wonder if he has the kiwis to make changes with any assistants.

Agreed. Will be interesting to see if he makes a change on the bench too.

RE: Norton to transfer
As much as it sucks right now, it’s a better investment overall to play the long game, have the much cheaper version of Haase at the helm, and give as much in resources as possible to Coach Clark to make us a national brand in football to drive overall revenue, fandom, and perhaps most importantly, conference positioning.

Wasn't Ehsan the main recruiter when Haase was here? Doesn't that mean the past couple of seasons were with "his" guys?

Riley recruited some players, Battle recruited some, Jackson recruited some players. (& Haase recruited some players)

He was a Creighton commit, and stealing him was considered a big win at the time.

Until there's an announcement that we have a bona fide stud grad transfer coming in as a PG, I will consider losing Norton as a big loss.

Regardless of who was recruited, the ownership of the team is in the hands of the BBHC. Assistant coaches - as the saying goes - make suggestions while Head coaches make decisions. Some of the former find that a huge leap when promoted to become the latter.
