If the MAC was threatening for the Access Bowl with teams like NIU and WMU then you'd heard quite a bit of MACvsAAC talk.

MAC 1 NY6 Bowl > SBC 0 NY6 Bowls

And if you count the BCS era it's 2 appearances for the MAC.

I'm sure it's not but I'm also pretty sure as an ODU fan you would rather have regular conference games with JMU, App St, GA St, and GA Southern than the 4 Texas schools from C-USA.

Coastal has had one FBS season. They deserve a bigger sample size before being completely written off.

The MAC rival conferences are on either side of them: the MVC and CAA. The MAC has FBS on them, but those other two have better basketball, as shown by more Sweet 16s and Final Fours. The MAC can’t gain traction by taking their teams because the target schools don’t want to lose a better basketball brand, and the MAC’s CFP payment would get further diluted.

If those other two were allowed to move up to FBS, they would even be fiercer rivals than the Belt and CUSA.

In America, we don't hold children responsible for the sins of their father. Yes, Marshall had bad scandals there in the 1960s and in 2001. But the latter incident was more than 15 years ago. I don't assume the institution is fundamentally corrupt.

I like MACtion. Not only is the name pretty clever (while not necessarily with a demeaning tone: like the FunBelt), it represents a unique college football product. The weekday games that MACtion has come to represent are something any diehard college football fan looks forward to each year. Sure they're not marquee games, but more games is always more fun.

And in many years they are actually marquee games. Average CFB fans now recognize, for instance, that NIU v Toledo is something they can look forward to watch.

But the MAC is at a crossroads: if they have infact sold their soul to ESPN the devil for more TV eyeballs, then it is time for the MAC school to market their football games as a TV product.

4K HD, smart camera angles, social media scrolls, interviews, athlete profiles, school commercials etc.

Embrace the suck and make TV work, MAC.
