RE: Nate Darling to Transfer
I keep trying to convince myself it isn’t Nick Norton. I admit it wouldn’t make much sense, but that would qualify as a shocker to me.

I would not be shocked by anyone on the team transferring. And the only players that could even qualify as "shocking" would be Norton, because his dad is coach there, or Bryant. Which wouldnt' be at all shocking since he has shown his potential and could probably see significant time at a school in a better conference.

Players are transferring all the time now. This isn't just a UAB thing. It's the nature of the game now.

RE: Nate Darling to Transfer
I just looked. UAB has had a transfer at the end of the season for 7 of the past 8 years.

2010-11 - Tony Criswell
2011-12 - Ovie Soko, Herb Harrison
2012-13 - Isiah Jones, Quincy Taylor
2013-14 - Thadeus Rideau, Chad Frazier* (don't know if he transferred or went overseas)
2014-15 - Jarvis Calhoun
2015-16 - none (see, hiring Ehsan did keep players from transferring)
2016-17 - Javien Williams
2017-18 - Thomas Smallwood, Deione Lavender, Nate Darling

Like I said, nature of the game

It must just be me, but I am shocked that Darling transferred and if any other player leaves, I would also be shocked. Maybe I am easily shockable...?

Well, all 4 of the guys that have decided to transfer over the past year were guys that signed when haase was coach.

The reason its shocking to me is because Ehsan was part of the staff that recruited them.

Yeah but E was also the coach running practices. like Herb Jones and Alex Reese were being recruited by Wulbrun between the assistants, according to Reese. Herb said in an interview 3 weeks ago he was committed to UAB til late in the process(assuming Bama’s homecoming game in ‘16)

I’m with you...I didn’t expect a guy to leave after playing 28 mins/game as a sophomore

Try not to read anything into this (and I'd be shocked if it happened), but Smallwood, Lavender, Darling, and Norton were very close...

I said Coach Eshan need to recruit with the mind that he is replacing all of the returning starters. Recruiting at such a high level that returning players believe they will be coming off the bench, the ones who believe their days are numbered will leave. You have to recruit to replace returning players.

Norton wouldn’t be surprising. Nor would a Boyce release. Shocking would be Bryant. anybody else on the current roster, no. Sullivan would be a bit surprising because he’s finally got an opportunity to work hard and earn a spot ahead of freshman. But, I didn’t have him starting next yr even if we didn’t add anymore post players. Sully is an energy guy at times, but like I said before he’s good for 2 fouls, 3 turnovers, 4minutes as soon as he’s put in the game.

And from what I understood, Bryant was excited about Boyce and Pearson coming in.

Bryant was also one of the player hosts for Tavin Lovan last week. Don't think they would have done that if Bryant was leaving. Sullivan, Bryant, Perry and Makhtar were the players he spent time with.

Yep, read that as stated by Lovan in commitment article.

Zach or Nick would be shockers. Zach for the impact and Norton for the family tie to UAB.

Bryant is by far the toughest to replace. Who else would be that big of a loss (not including signees)?

Please be Norton (no offense Nick) and or others besides Bryant.

If Ehsan is getting two more years, then he might as well start over with Zach and a more talented roster.

Bummed Darling is transferring. I was expecting him to take a big step forward next year.

And if the next transfer is Norton, there must have been some weird stuff happen in that locker room.
