Brady Chrisman @ 170lbs in Ohio Division 1 finished in 2nd place at the state tournament and finished 43-4 for his senior season.
Jacob Cover @ HWT in Ohio Division 1 finished in 4th place at the state tournament and finished 45-5 for his senior season.
Caleb Brooks @ 126lbs in Ohio Division 2 finished in 3rd place at the state tournament and finished 37-2 for his senior season.
Stone Day @ 195lbs in Ohio Division 2 finished as the champion at the state tournament and finished 34-1 for his senior season.
Tim Wallace @ 182lbs in Pennsylvania Division AAA finished in 2nd place at the state tournament and finished 34-3 for his senior season.
Not a bad showing by the 5 recruits. I am wondering with EMU getting rid of wrestling and them having 5 or 6 northeast Ohio freshmen, redshirt freshmen, and sophomores on their roster, how many will transfer to Kent State?
3 new recruits, bringing this class to 8. Leno Ciotti from Erie McDowell HS in Erie PA @ 141lbs and Tyler Bates from Marysville HS in Marysville OH @ 174/184lbs, Hunter Yackee from Wauseon HS in Wauseon OH @ 141lbs.
In looking at this years roster and who returns/possible starting lineup:
125lbs - Will Bardezbain is out of eligibility and Jake Ferri (12-18 record this year) returns for his sophomore year as the starter. Feuer will provide depth.
133lbs - Anthony Tutolo (29-13) returns for his redshirt senior year as the starter in hopes of producing his best season yet @ KSU. Simpson providing depth with Caleb Brooks coming in next fall as a true freshman.
141lbs - Chance Driscoll is out of eligibility and Tim Rooney (29-14 record) returns for his redshirt sophomore year as the starter, after a solid 1st year as the starter. Martinez, Henneman (21-4 record) & Newhouse providing depth, with Leon Ciotti & Hunter Yackee coming in next fall as true freshmen.
149lbs - Nick Monico (20-12) returns for his redshirt sophomore year as the starter, hoping to build off of a solid redshirt freshman season. Hinkson & Komara (12-5) provide depth.
157lbs - Casey Sparkman (23-18) returns for his redshirt senior year as the starter, hoping to have his best season in a KSU uniform. Spino, Heyob (12-10), & Jackson provide depth. Interesting that Andrassy isn't bringing a recruit at 157lbs, with Sparkman gone the following year as I am not sure the 3 guys listed can come close to his production.
165lbs - Isaac Bast (23-19) returns for his redshirt senior year as the starter, hoping to have his best season in a KSU uniform. Byland and Hinkle (9-11) providing depth. Interesting that Andrassy isn't bringing a recruit at 165lbs, with Bast gone the following year as I am not sure the 2 guys listed can come close to his production, although Hinkle did have a nice 1st season in open tournaments.
174lbs - Dylan Barreiro (21-19) returns for his redshirt sophomore year as the starter coming off a successful 1st season as the starter. I believe Hinkle wrestles 174lbs as well. Brady Chrisman & Tyler Bates will be on campus next fall and will provide depth at 174lbs as well as 184lbs, maybe 1 or the other.
184lbs - Collin McCracken (12-22) returns for his sophomore year as the starter, hopefully he can improve his conditioning because he has a lot of talent. Brady Chrisman & Tyler Bates will be on campus next fall and will provide depth at 184lbs, along with Shane Mast, as well as 174lbs, maybe 1 or the other.
197lbs - Kyle Conel (30-11) returns for his redshirt senior year as the starter coming off his All American 3rd place finish at the NCAAs. Stone Day & Tim Wallace will be on campus in the fall and will provide depth at 197lbs.
HWT - Stephen Suglio is out of eligilibilty and Devin Nye (21-17) would be a redshirt senior if he returns. Billy Bolia (12-13) returns after redshirting and having a nice open tournament year. Spencer Berthold didn't wrestle in any matches or tournaments this season, so not sure if he is returning to KSU or not, but would definitely provide depth along with Jacob Cover who will be on campus in the fall.
KSU should have a really good season next year, with the depth and starters returning, on paper at least.
On a side note, Perry from EMU who finished as an All American this season, is transferring to Old Dominion since EMU is folding their Wrestling program.
