For other sports it wouldn't be good to be a coast to coast league. If you're wanting to expand hoops you stay in the existing region. If a BYU/Boise football addition was wanted by the networks, I'm sure we would listen. Going beyond 14 though would get crazy.

San Diego State and Sacramento State are members of the AAC in rowing and there are other non revenue and Olympic sports teams in "nationwide" conferences.

I would really like BSU and Air Force to join as FB only (if we can't get Army and BYU) with Gonzaga and St Mary's to offset in bball. That's P6 for sure.

I don't see BSU splitting up it's sports with basketball doing well the past few years. Unless it was a big 12 invite.

Hey, EDLUVAR, when I saw you in the "users browsing" list, I intended to bump the "bowl game ratings" thread but it was closed by moderator.

I drilled down a little into the wikipedia article on Fiesta Bowl. If you click the link for the citation for the $24million number in that wikipedia article on the 2014 Fiesta...it is an article on the 2013 UCF-Baylor Fiesta.

The Idaho Statesman article clearly says payout for the CFP Fiesta following the 2014 season was $4million for each team and $2million+ for expenses. Boise got the $2million+ and half the $4million and 1/12 the other half of the $4million.

Yeah I looked into that and you are right. BSU split the 24 for the first 2 fiesta bowls and the third was less with the CFP being created.

Definitely some nice cheddar for '06-'07 and '09-10, though. More than all the CFP group-of-five-conferences-without-access-bowl-contract NY6 participants together.

LOL!! Why set the bar for just 1 Million?

Why not say 3 Million be your bar??

Here are the TV ratings for games that BYU's TV contract controlled (home games)

vs Portland State on ESPN (during Week 0 special premier): 939,000
vs Utah: 668,000 on ESPN2
vs Wisconsin: 2,270,000 on ABC
vs Boise St: 1,043,000 on ESPN
vs San Jose State: No ratings, game was on BYUTV and ESPN3
vs Hawaii: No ratings...game was on BYUTV and ESPN3

BYU only had 2 tv contract games with more than 1 Million viewers...and ZERO contracted games with anything over 2.3 Million (hence why BYU fan used low bar for measurement).

If measurement was 3 Million...for just one other team, it would have been:
BYU: 0
UCF: 3

Something tells me ESPN made a heck of a lot more TV AD $$$ off just UCF games this year vs any BYU game they controlled....as UCF's last 3 games of the season drew almost 16.5 Million viewers (16,462,000 viewers to be exact).

Fuzzy math used is what happened. I'd still welcome byu in the AAC though. We would add the their viewership.

The only sport the American takes to Cali is rowing, a meet sport. Flying 30+ people around for baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, wrestling, etc will get expensive. Notice most non-football conferences tend to have very tight footprints.

Wren Baker, North Texas' AD, tweeted this represents more significantly more revenue and broader distribution for the conference.
