I think the only way ODU leaves FBS at this point is if a) a major restructuring of the divisions knocks ODU into the second tier, or b) a catastrophic failure of Foreman Field combined with a severe money crunch that makes continuing football no longer viable. I can't see any circumstances in which ODU willingly demotes its football any more than they would willingly join the Big South or Atlantic Sun in all sports.

I agree. That's why I think staying the course in CUSA with hopes of an invite from The American or what comes from the ashes thereof after the mass grant of rights expiration in a few years is the prudent thing to do. At the rate things are going we may know something about Foreman 2.0 by then.

I would argue that A has already happened. Its called the G5. And that B looks very close to being at least 50% fulfilled with what we are hearing about the stadium and our revenue. I do still believe football is viable and important to the health of the school.

If the AAC loses Cincy, UConn, Memphis & Houston perhaps we can convince Navy, Temple, UCF, USF, Umass & ECU to join with ODU, Marshall, WKU, MTSU, UNCC, App St. That'd be a fine conference. Bring in VCU and GMU for basketball and it gets even better. We just have to get basketball into a better situation ASAP.

If I recall correctly, you need 5 teams that have been in conference together for 5 years to form a new conference. The problem is Marshall and WKU aren't interested and Navy wants to play out West. It is going to be difficlut to pull off, especially with WKU, MTSU and UAB all in very close proximity with Marshall, Charlotte, Georgia State, and App State all in striking distance. Those schools just aren't feeling the pain like we are and if they did strike a new conference and were invited, it will be in a regional conference... just not in our region... and our athletes will still spend half the year on a bus and never be on TV.

I meant more like a breakaway of the P5 and a handful of upper-tier G5s into a standalone grouping that left ODU in a literal second division in which they couldn't ever get home games with the first division teams. Mostly I'm thinking that ODU is more likely to kill football outright than accept a demotion to a lower division, acknowledging that neither are even remote possibilities at this point.

Completely agree - we are in big boy/FBS football for good. We are never going back to small ball/fcs, nor should we. Keep moving forward. It will work out in the end.

So 42.72% out of 103 voters want to stay the course. We don't know who those 103 voters are, but if they are actual ODU fans with no direct affiliation to those that have been making the decisions, I think that is pretty sad.

Yeah the one downside to making is anonymous is there is definitely some trollery. I figured we'd have more odu fans here anyway to compensate, so while these numbers aren't perfect I think they generally tell the story.

RE: Where would you rather be?
Another way to digest the very limited data here is making the choice stay the course with CUSA, or move basketball to A10 regardless of what happens to football, or make a regional realignment. Those numbers look like:
100% CUSA = 44 votes, 43.56%
A10 basketball = 36 votes, 35.64%
Regional realignment = 21 votes, 20.79%

Agree it is probably about 40/60 with about 2/3 of those wanting to change course preferring a basketball first solution and about 1/3 wanting to try something with the Sunbelt.

Well yeah, it is sad that that many are happy with the dumpster fire, but pretty sad for the AD that 57% want to change course and that their fan base is so divided. Just all around sad.

Can confirm, 101 of the 103 votes are actual ODU fans.

So 2 non-ODU fans voted and there's 2 votes for all CAA.... interesting...

There are actually a couple of ODU fans that have that opinion and have expressed it here.

Only 1 of the 2 voted for the CAA. The other voted for CUSA/AAC.
