I don't know how accurate that depth chart is. Brandon Simmons should be out of eligibility as he has played 4 years already.

I would think the team would know if he was eligible or not. FWIW, he played in 4 games before going out injured last year. Medical redshirt?

The only odd thing to me is Cooper at TE. I'm guessing they have him pegged as an H-back type.

Would depend on how far into the game he got hurt. I'm sure they're applying for it, however.

It would be great to get clarification on the rule. As I have always understood for the athlete to qualify for a hardship waiver (medical redshirt) they would have to play in less than 3 games/ 30% of the season and the injury would have to have happened within the first half of the season to get the wavier.

I'd say kudos to the coaching staff if they figure out the 30% rule and are able to get Simmons another year. I guess Simmons would have had to get injured in game 4 before halftime to be eligible because a completed game 4 would have been 33.3% of the season.

From the NCAA bylaws. The injury or illness occurs when the student-athlete has not participated in more than three contests or dates of competition (whichever is applicable to that sport), or 30 percent of the maximum permissible number of contests or dates of competition set forth in Bylaw 17 in his or her sport

And you are OK with this?

Unless I have missed something, every player in our short history who was convicted of a felony was released from the program.
It appeared to be standard policy.

Derek Wilder was convicted of "felony eluding".

I definitely don't agree with the a double standard on this and if that was the case he should no longer be on the team. The one question i have is how has "suspended from the team indefinitely" been applied in the past. Has that meant the player is essentially released from the team or does it mean they have to sit out for a period of time (more or less) and loses their scholarship for that period of time. If that's the case it may be that the players chose not to (or couldn't afford to) stay around in school and left on their own. Wilder would have been able to do that.

I also do not know every case of arrests within the program. From the outside (and reading the pilot), it appears that we are pretty strict. I'm not sure I agree or not, but I hope at the very least the subject was brought to the veterans council (or whatever they call it) to discuss. Im talking about the group of veteran players that "lead" the team.

RE: Spring Training Starts Tuesday
I feel from the way BW talks about him and media reports Derek will be back next season.

If Derek is playing for us next season he should have to serve a suspension of a few games if not longer. People are going to say its too harsh of a penalty for him to sit out a few more games because he sat out last season but remember last season he was injured due to his injuries. Even if he was found not guilty he would have still sat out due to injuries. I don't feel walking the sidelines high fiving guys and flying with the team last season was adequate punishment. Whatever happened to BW statement if you don't dress you don't fly. There some double standards going on.

MO: If I was a coach and he was my player/ son I'd have to find him another place to play.

I guess Denzel Williams is not coming back. I don't see him listed on the depth chart or the roster. He was figuring it our last year before his suspension.

Rape, Assault and Battery, Larceny, use of a firearm in a crime? Sure. Eluding? not so sure.

Coach Wilder is a parent first and the last thing he wants to do is send his kid several miles away unsupervised.

He's responsible for raising his kid and should be able to choose how he does it.

Also, Coach Wilder is an ambassador to this area and has been involved in the community since he got here. He is afforded special consideration in circumstances like this.

Hmmm. Eluding police can put multiple lives in danger. It is potentially far more dangerous to the public at large than a guy punching another guy in a bar.

One of the highlights of this young program has been the consistency with which all player issues have been handled. Indeed the program has heretofore been a model.

ODU804 made a reasonable point above, however I disagree in the strongest terms that BW should get special consideration.

The optics of this just don't look good at all, IMO.
