I don't get how Evans is considered a lock to be gone. He is far from being an elite shooter, and still needs work on his handle. I know he's athletic, but I don't think thats enough at this point. I guess we'll see how he performs in the big boy tournament.

If he doesn't improve on his play in the AACT, I don't see how he could possibly leave... He was as bad as it gets offensively over the weekend.

You have to bear in mind, prior to his most recent lapse, the kid was above 40% from 3 for the second consecutive season and was a very good shooter. After the next few days? He'll probably go right back to being who he has been. He's not perfect with regard to shooting, but he is VERY good. We've never seen him have a streak like this before, I'm guessing most people know that's not typical him.
Even with his bad shooting yesterday, he was knocking down mid range shots no problem in the first half. Reached double digits very early. Now, if the streak keeps up(I don't think it will, he's never had this problem before) you can make that argument.

As for his handle, for a 6'6-6'7 2 guard his handle is fine.
You add to that his length and athleticism on D...
He can guard multiple positions at an elite level. That's unusual.

Yep...ESPN bought Jonathan Givony and crew from Draft Express (best in the business IMHO) to do the draft stuff and he has Evans in his updated mock draft going #23 to Timberwolves with a chance to move up.

Back in 2011 Givony posted combine numbers and interviews from Jimmy Butler and Scotty Hopson...Givony said I would go with Butler even though Hopson had better testing numbers based on the info below...he used Scotty Hopson's combine interview of what not to do when meeting NBA teams 03-lmfao

Quote:Among over 900 former collegiate and international players in the Sports Aptitude database, only 26 have an Internal Motivation rating to match Butler's. This is the upper 97th percentile of basketball players in a measure that relates to self-discipline, goal-motivation, and the drive to exceed expectations.

Over the past nine seasons, 13 out of the 15 drafted players from this category are rotation players for playoff caliber teams, nine of these players are considered plus defenders, and three are trending towards max contract territory -- these guys find a way to get to the top.

Well I'm just shocked that you have accentuated any negatives and downplayed any positives here. Who could have seen that coming?

And do you really think NBA scouts watch the guy all year but are like, "Hmmm, I just don't know whether or not this kid is NBA level. Welp, guess I'll decide after seeing him play a few games in the tourney. I'll pay particular attention to that Georgia State match-up."

I don't think he is a lock for being gone, but if he is a projected first round pick, he should go. Not even a question. Guess the guys who get paid to scout see things a little differently than you do.

I agree with this. Ask Steve Logan his opinion on going in the 2nd round.

To me it sounds like everyone is arguing the same thing re: Evans. For whatever player though, you don't get to see where you're drafted and then decide, it's seems clear that Evans has a decent chance at the first round, but is not clear cut.

Could we start a second thread though about Jacob Evans - Gary Clark is our conference player of the year, defensive player of the year, our most effective player, and IMHO deserves his own thread.

RE: Gary Clark - Where Does He Stand All-Time?
You need to read this article by Bill Koch. Gary Clark is not just a great basketball player he is a great human being. I'm proud he's a Bearcat!

KOCH: Clark A Winning Player And So Much More

Quote:Late in the first half of the University of Cincinnati's 62-48 victory at Memphis, senior forward Gary Clark went up for a rebound, lost control of the ball, and tumbled to the FedEx Forum floor.

Memphis forward Mike Parks Jr. grabbed the ball under the Tigers' basket and went up for what he surely thought would be an easy layup only to have Clark bounce up to block his shot. The play had little impact on the outcome, but it was emblematic of Clark's approach to the game.

"From a coaching standpoint you sit there and you think, now there's a Bearcat," said UC head coach Mick Cronin. "That's everything you want. When you have a senior make a play like that, there's a sense of pride as a coaching staff that this guy has really bought into becoming everything that we wanted him to become. To me, that was the epitome of who he is now as a player."
