I pegged him as a dark-horse candidate for N.C. State last season and while that may have been too big a jump, I definitely could see him at an ODU-level program.

I think even bottom level CUSA teams would be competitive in the MEAC.

Perhaps, but Moton is also working with MEAC resources, not CUSA resources. NC Central just won their second straight NCAA trip and third since 2014. There's always a risk when a coach moves up a weight class (see Anthony Evans moving from NSU to FIU) but I think someone would be wise to roll the dice on him.

I like Moton. he is a popular guest on Raleigh sports talk radio, which says a lot since he coaches just down the street from Williams and Coach K. Seems to be class guy from what I can tell.
I like him too, but am curious as to why he hasn't gotten a better job yet.

Could be loyalty. He played there (his jersey was retired) and he's been on the coaching staff since 2007. So it could be he's happy there for the long-term, or he's got a higher standard about which job opportunities he pursues.

I think most everyone agrees it is time for a change. I hope he retires vs being forced out. He did an awesome jump of reestablishing the program and make it somewhat competitive again. I honestly think Stith can take us to the next level. He has been successful at every level he has played and coached. Plus I believe he can recruit at this level.

Agree. I like JJ, he is a good and smart man, but he just isnt a leader. I also don't want Lil' Woody hiring his replacement. It is a catch 22. I want out of mediocrity, but the leadership isn't there, with or without Jones.

Lil' Woody and Dyin' Broderick own the CUSA thing, which has been an unmitigated failure.

RE: The official Jeff jones hot seat thread
The last reporting I have seen states that Jones' contract runs out next month. Has anyone heard of an extension?

He signed a 5-year contract (fully executed a year later) in April of 2013 and Miller's reporting when the contract was finalized stated that April 2018 is the end date....

He's done nothing to deserve more time.

better to take our medicine now than to keep hoping "next year" he figures it out.

Real coaches do not take nearly this long to make an impact.

They are not auto extensions. They are options. No evidence they were exercised.

And? I'm right and I've been right all along. It's time for you to accept it.

Still looking for the actual contract but you are correct there are multiple types of options in his contract.

From the daily press:

Jones can extend the contract by one year in April of 2014 and '15, and ODU's athletic director can exercise one-year rollovers thereafter.

I haven't heard anything about them being exercised but I would be shocked if he didn't at least exercise his options, especially after year 1 (18-18).

Every time Blaine's were exercised, it was front page sports news in the Pilot and the Daily Press.

I'm not sure what the deal is, but I am going to assume at some point his contract was built to roll over automatically. There is no way his contract is about to run out in the next month without it having been reported somewhere.

Both papers had a bigger staff back then too. Most of his tenure was before advertising revenue fell off a cliff.
