And they stopped Tennessee from beating them for a 3rd time in the season for the first time since 1979.

Eight teams making the tourney was a bit of a surprise to me. How many Big 10 teams will be in the tournament?

They are the tournament champions, not the champions of the regular season (Auburn/Tennessee).

Big 10: I counted 4. Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Purdue.

SEC: I counted 8. Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas A&M

ACC: I counted 9 (1 in the play in games): Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina, N.C. State, Syracuse (play in), Virginia, Virginia Tech

PAC: I counted 3: Arizona (2 in the play in games) Arizona State and UCLA (play in)

Big 12: I counted 7: Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, T.C.U., and West Virginia

And Baylor was in the first 4 out. Oklahoma St. had a lot of good wins and was probably in the second 4 out. Iowa St., #10 in the conference, was ranked in the top 10-15 early in the season.

I'm old school. To me, the regular season is about seeding for the conference tournament. Kentucky is the champion!

Old school was before there were any conference tournaments! Tournaments are an excuse to extort more money from fans and carriers. And it's what makes basketball nothing more than a crap shoot!

Actually, the SEC had a tournament for its first 20 years, from 1933 until 1953. Then they abandoned it for 26 years, reviving it in 1979, so this was the 40th straight tournament since the revival.

With 66 times played, the ACC's is the granddaddy of tournaments, but a lot of folks don't know that the SEC is far and away #2 in that regard. This was the 58th overall SEC tournament, and the first SEC tournament was held 20 years before the ACC first held theirs.

Personally, I love the conference tournaments. They provide great hoops action, as we've seen the last few days.
