I agree with you Gilesfan. You have to strike when the iron is hot. Years ago we had an opportunity to get into the Big East and passed. How much of a mistake was that? When the right opportunity comes around next time I'd like to think we'll be ready.

And years ago we had a chance to join the A10 and passed too. Seems as if that chance has come again, and again... we are passing.

Has that ever been confirmed, that the A-10 invited ODU and ODU said no? Because it's been established that the A-10 told ODU no a few years ago when they were looking at their post-CAA options, and while their commish said they'd take ODU now, who knows if she was just being polite on ODU turf, since they're not adding schools and don't even need to backfill if schools leave?

Meanwhile, for those of you pining for the CAA: You would HATE today's CAA. HATE it. Look at their, ahem, "TV" deal. One game a week streamed on CBS Digital. No TV at all. They'd probably kill for a Stadium/BeIN/CBS Sports deal.

I get why people are nostalgic, but put it this way: I miss going to Blockbuster on Friday night but I'm not interested in going back to those days. I REWINDED THE TAPE, TAKE THIS CHARGE OFF MY ACCOUNT YOU ********.

Its arguable that CUSA was not a move "up". Worse basketball. Better quality football, but I had just as much enjoyment as a fan tailgating and watching us in FCS. The playoffs are as much fun or more than a blah bowl. If we ever make the access bowl, I'll change my mind. Otherwise there isn't a bowl in CUSA that is better than the FCS NC game. Maybe the HoD bowl... maybe.

RE: Aftermath
I agree that CUSA was the correct move also.

Away games are tough due to the crazy distance and TV situation is real bad. Do agree on those. But the spread of this league has NOTHING to do with our inability to win it. We moved from the spread out Sun Belt into the CAA and dominated winning 2 of 3 immediately and had that 3rd if not for a last second prayer from Culucko.

CUSA is not keeping us from recruiting well and it isn't keeping us from beating 2 programs that also moved up from the Sun Belt into it at the same time that we did. For some reason, UAB, MTSU, and Marshall have gone to the dance in spite of the vast spread of this league. And if ODU had held off that final tip in 2 years ago vs MTSU and played better against WKU 2 days ago , we'd be feeling a LOT better about our hoops situation, spread out league and all.

I used to laugh at Drexel fans when they would talk down about the CAA and blame their inability to dance on their move to it. This is the same deal as them moving from a compact A-East and then calling the CAA a dumpster fire because they saw it as too Virginia-centric. It was simply not true. They were close to winning it, just like us, but could not get it done.

Blaming it all on JJ makes a lot more sense IMO. I just don't think his performance this year justifies a move yet. But who knows? I'm very disappointed in this year's finish. Feels like a trajectory to me but I'm watching the same games that you all are.

I'm not saying things are good right now but after doing all this reading without posting, I just had to chime in. We need a NCAA appearance and could have had it if we could just beat some of these better teams.

It is an absolute fact that in the early 90s the A10 asked ODU, JMU and UR to join. All three declined and decided to stick together in the CAA and make that better than the A10. It was well on its way to working out that way. Then ECU left. Then American. The rest of the conference made a pact to stick together and a merger with the best of the SoCon schools was about to be announced. Then UR announced they had worked a secret deal to join the A10 which put the end to swiping the SoCon teams. UR lied straight to the face of every CAA school at the time. I lost a lot of respect for them over that.

And the A10 gets 3 teams in. MTSU isn't even in the first four out. Travesty. We may as well be in the MEAC.

In no way am I blaming the spread out conference as the reason we didn't win the tournament. If you read my post I clearly stated that. And my frustration is not necessarily that we lost, although I am highly disappointed. Frankly, I think we are putting together the type of team that will compete and has a good chance of winning the tournament soon. My frustration is clearly with the conference as a basketball conference. I totally understand why we went the direction we did for football and that's fine with me. But for someone that is more into basketball and traveling to see the team at times this conference is not doing it for me.

In the CAA you wouldn't need a TV deal. You could travel to the games.

CAA is a joke without us, VCU, and GMU. Their clear #1 team is a 13 seed in the dance. Marshall is our fourth best team and they are a #13 seed. And I don’t care about the conference RPI. The top four in CUSA dust the top four in CAA - all day every day.

...and, yes, I know we lost to b&m on a buzzer beater. Was there, don’t need to bring it up.

Our clear 1 didn't get into the tournament. Not even the first 4 out. They would have been a 12 seed at best.

Our clear best was in the top 25. When is the last time the CAA had a ranked team?

The CAA had a stretch of four years where it was exceptional. Other than those four years, the CAA was and still is (and will continue to be) a one bid league. Unfortunatley, CUSA is currently in the same boat. Don’t romanticize the CAA because those days are over and will never return.

Dude, did you bother to click the link. They are statistically better than CUSA every year. You can make some arguments is CUSA 's favor if you want to, I might make some of them myself, but to act like CUSA is a significantly better basketball conference is supported by nothing.

My point was a comparison of the top teams in both conferences - not the conferences in total. The top four in cusa are better than the caa - pure and simple. Not going to argue the point.
