I'm firmly in the camp of "just be professional and move on." No reason to be condescending in that circumstance. Answer the perfunctory questions and head to the locker room.

I have lived my entire life in the south South, I assure you I understand the way "honey" is used here, but I also understand that women, even in the south South often find it condscending at minimum, again, especially in a professional setting.

I ask again, what is the great imposition to you, to not use terms like "honey" when talking to strangers?

Tactic of dismissal...lol. Call it what you want. I'm always very honest with regard to my opinions on everything, and if we disagree, we disagree.

And about the "ask again", you never asked me that question to begin with. But since you've now asked it, there is no great imposition to me at all. I don't address anyone as "honey" because I was born and raised in Germany (and learned English as a 2nd language), where there are actually two ways of addressing people (formal and informal), and addressing someone you don't know well in anything but a formal fashion is unbecoming and frowned upon. But having lived in Texas since '84 when I first enrolled at UTSA, I know enough to not be offended when people here refer to me as "honey" because in most instances, it isn't meant in a derogatory way. I don't use the term though.

To "ask again" as I have in this thread several times, not necessarily to you specifically. What imposition is it to anyone?

And intent and cultural context only go so far, for all the talk of southern hospitality, I'd say one of the most hospitable things you can do is listen to someone when they say something bothers them, even if your intent was harmless.

I was born and raised and lived my whole life in the South. I get called honey all the time, mainly by waitstaff. I don't and wouldn't call any other woman other than my wife or daughter that as a man. Call it a double standard but it is what it is. If a coworker or client called me honey I would probably not be offended but I'd be taken aback by it because I don't work in an industry where sweet tea is served. It may be different further south.

Regardless, he was speaking condescendingly to her. And that puts "honey" in a whole new meaning.

If the "ask again" thing wasn't meant toward me specifically, and you mean that you asked it of others previously, you may want to word it differently next time. See how that works? Our responses don't always come out as they're intended, even when we have the luxury of sitting behind a computer screen and can really process our response before providing it, as opposed to live TV where it's right there and in the moment.

Agree completely with what you said in your second paragraph though.

Because I don’t, nor will I ever, live my life bowing down to perpetually offended morons. The world has far more issues than everyone finding something to whine and cry about. People need to get over themselves and stop the nonsense. We’re producing a generation os misfits that don’t even know what damned bathroom to use. Everyone being offended about everything is a result of the participation trophy mode of thinking. We’ve got far too many people that just can’t handle it when things don’t go exactly how they want them too because they never had to growing up. It’s past pathetic.

Really? Sounds yippish to me. I mean he's literally complaining about people complaining and he's not going to stand for it. But he's not going to bow down either. So what position is he going to take it? Whatever it is I'm sure he'd appreciate the common courtesy of a reach around. And that's all we're really talking about, right? Common courtesy. The old Golden Rule. Might be more than a sadist like yourself can conprehend. I don't know. That's not my thing. But there's masochists that might get you. I don't get that one either. My favorite flavor's cherry red. And peach. But if you like banana it doesn't make my cherry taste any less sweeter. Hell, I'll sit down with you and we can sort out a whole bowl of fruit salad. Even if we both decide that we both really hate Star fruit, because it is obnoxious, we can just leave that **** in the bowl. Still, fruit of any flavors better than fart sniffing.

This is just a tactic of dismissal.

Anytime someone complains about anything that someone else views as trivial, the complaint is instantly marginalised as "going overboard".

I have lived my entire life in the south South, I assure you I understand the way "honey" is used here, but I also understand that women, even in the south South often find it condscending at minimum, again, especially in a professional setting.

I ask again, what is the great imposition to you, to not use terms like "honey" when talking to strangers?

Because I don’t, nor will I ever, live my life bowing down to perpetually offended morons. The world has far more issues than everyone finding something to whine and cry about. People need to get over themselves and stop the nonsense. We’re producing a generation os misfits that don’t even know what damned bathroom to use. Everyone being offended about everything is a result of the participation trophy mode of thinking. We’ve got far too many people that just can’t handle it when things don’t go exactly how they want them too because they never had to growing up. It’s past pathetic.

nor should anyone with a set 'hanging'....

well stated sir!

The volume of stupid in this post is impressive. I’m not even mad. I’m impressed!
