2018 Schedule Released
Week 1 (TBA) vs. Mars Hill
Week 2 9/8 at Tennessee
Week 3 9/15 at VMI*
Week 4 9/22 vs. Furman*
Week 5 9/29 vs. Chattanooga*
Week 6 10/6 vs. Gardner-Webb
Week 7 10/13 at The Citadel*
Week 8 10/20 at Wofford*
Week 9 10/27 vs. Western Carolina*
Week 10 11/3 at Mercer*
Week 11 BYE
Week 12 11/17 vs. Samford*

Conference schedule definitely feels back-loaded, which may or may not be a good thing if we're still on the bubble after 6 weeks.

RE: 2018 Schedule Released
I have a feeling that we are going to be doing more 5:00 games or later going forward. We have to minimize the number of times that we bake our fans sitting on the visitors side.

Please more night or evening games. My dermatologist won't approve of more crispy fried day games. More butts will remain in seats too.

Very hard to tailgate. Its a school night. Out of town folks are penalized. Three reasons Thur night is bad.

RE: 2018 Schedule Released
The first game will be set based on when Tennessee plays West Virginia in Charlotte that weekend. That game could be played anywhere from Thursday through Monday.
As for prime time games there's a few reasons you won't see that many.
1. Travel - Teams want one night in a hotel when possible, that's it. Not fair to the road team to have to bus back leaving at 11pm or later after a night game.
2. Radio - The primary radio affiliates are all A.M. stations, except the occasional game on WKOS. WXSM has to power down to nothing as to not interfere with the WSM signal at night, and WJCW powers down as well. Even with modern technologies (Audio/video streaming) there's still that mindset.
3. Power 5 football - The majority of the high level, power 5 football games are played now starting at 3:30 and going into primetime. I know that none of you like to hear this, but if you want to grow attendance, ETSU at this stage can't try to compete against that, especially with a 5-6 product currently. Maybe when the team is winning at a higher level, then yes, maybe we can look at more night games. It stinks, but that's the reality of it. Play the games at times where people can and will go, and still have time to watch power five games that are water cooler games.

RE: 2018 Schedule Released
After a year off (and what a great decision that was!), I'm back in for UT season tickets this year, so I'll be hoping for the schedule to work out as much as possible for me to be at both.

So, I hope the Mars Hill game is Thursday so I can make the trip to Charlotte to see the WV game. And day games at ETSU would help in getting to UT for probable night games against SC and Missouri (attending two college games same day is like nirvana for me). I may sell my Alabama tickets and go to Wofford. Looks like I can try a trip to The Citadel if I wish (never been there).

As far as people baking in the sun, it was abnormally warm a couple of those Saturdays. I read here before that FCS teams prefer day games since it saves them a night's lodging, so I wouldn't expect many late ones.

The Citadel game was awful this year. Give me a cold and windy game any day over baking.

Somehow, your opening sentence brings back ghosts of past bad memories. Just curious, why would UT open in Charlotte — to shield the new guy from a possible opening butt whipping at Neyland? UT vs ETSU — what’ll be your colors that day?

RE: 2018 Schedule Released
The West Virginia game was scheduled a few years ago by Dave Hart and Sgt. Carter the life champion. It's a modern trend if you don't have that big time intersectional rival (Florida/FSU, Ga. Tech/Georgia for example) that Labor Day you schedule a nice, neutral site game against a power 5 opponent. The dome in Atlanta hosts two on Labor Day weekend, Jerry World has one as well.
This year:
Tennessee vs. West Virginia (should've been a bigger matchup than it is)
Michigan Vs. Notre Dame
Auburn vs. Washington
LSU vs. Miami
Alabama vs. Louisville
Ole Miss vs. Texas Tech.

It also looks like the Backyard Brawl when it renews will be played Labor Day weekend as well instead of its' traditional Thanksgiving weekend.

Just to name a few. September 8th has some high level games like that as well, but Labor Day is full bore with high level matchups. It's better to wait and see who gets scheduled where, particularly Tennessee/WVU then play the game at a time to maximize attendance.

Oh, I'm all blue and gold when the Bucs face the Vols. Also the most obnoxious fan imaginable. It'll be beyond weird to be a visiting fan at Neyland.

It wasn't too bad when I attended the VMI game, though being late in the season it was obviously cooler, but I roasted during the Robert Morris game.

It is one of the kick off classic games.
Same reason Alabama played Florida State
And Tennessee played Geogia Tech
In Atlanta in the Chick Fil A Kickoff games (at the Falcon's stadium, not a home game for Georgia Tech)
Exposure.

It is strange they picked UT and WVU. , in past it has been North Carolina teams vs South Carolina.

Both Tennessee and WVU have huge alumni clubs in Charlotte and the surrounding areas. It's not a bad drive from the Tri-Cities or from Knoxville, and both teams can pull from their Atlanta alumni chapters as well. They've gone to the well a lot with UNC vs. USC in that game, so they're changing it up a bit.
It's also expensive. Screw that. I'll watch it from a campground somewhere with a portable satellite dish.
