RE: Kent State @ Akron
I can say kudos to our student section. They outnumbered the couple-dozen Akron fans that came to Kent. They know all the cheers, sing the Fight Song, and are in the game.

Do not let anyone ever tell you that this is just another game. I hate zits and our coach should also. I am feeling like this season is his worst coaching job by far. It goes deeper than this game. Our player still do not know each other. Did I say that I am pissed.

There needs to be a change to the foul bonus rule. I am tired of games taking forever to finish with all of the free throws and stoppage of play. Games should be around the 105 minute mark not 190 minutes. I stopped paying full attention halfway through the 2nd half when every few seconds someone as at the line shooting free throws for a touch foul. It is every single game that it happens which is making me lose interest in watching every game.

2-11 on the road. Could't sweep them during their worst season in recent memory. Lucked out last year and now no bye for the third year in a row. Guess we're satisfied with the status quo.

RE: Kent State @ Akron
The last call was ridiculous, I think we can all agree on that. Zero contact, a player falls down, whistle decides the game... But let's ignore that for a minute and let's look at Pippen's 5th foul. Akron player drives into the lane, crashes into him while he's stationary and they call it. The ref points to the restricted area. Yes, you are correct, he was in the restricted area... But that doesn't mean the rule of verticality doesn't exist. The way that thing ended was a joke. Patchwork lineups on the court because everyone else is fouled out. Akron not scoring a fg in the last 6:30 and still coming back to win.

It's easy to blame Larry, Curly and Moe. And they were beyond awful. But if you go the final 6 minutes without a field goal on the road against the team with the worst record in the league, you can't blame the refs.

RE: Kent State @ Akron
I'm not blaming the refs. Our offense looks like crap. I'm finally seeing plays being run, but the execution is terrible. Our rebounding looks really bad.
We were due for a loss with the way we are playing. I'm actually surprised we aren't on a 7 game losing streak. After we beat Buffalo we have played like a bunch of drunks.
Senderhoff might have gotten us "there" last year, but whatever bonus he got, he needs to give to Jimmy Hall. This team is last year's team, but without Hall.
What are we thinking with some of the shot selection? Who, with any basketball background, takes some of those shots? How do we come out of time outs looking this lost?
Honestly, Senderhoff needs to be on a hot seat next year. But he probably won't because last year.

Allen Moff:

Two free throws by Eric Parrish with 3.6 seconds to go give Akron a 67-65 victory over @KentStMBB. Officials blow whistles non-stop in second half, just an ugly game. Some jawing afterward, players/staff had to be separated. Flashes will host a MAC Tournament opener on Monday.

David Carducci:

Can't blame either @ZipsMBB or @KentStMBB for emotions after the game. You can only blame Beaver, Eppley & Vejsick.
Zips & Flashes played incredibly hard. Great crowd at the JAR. Fans of both teams paid to watch Howard, Howard and Fine blow their whistles... 46 fouls? Awful!

Mid-American Conference could save a boat load of $$$ by just making men's basketball a call-your-own league. Guys can drive to the lane and say, "I got it. You fouled me."
Feel awful for @KentStMBB & @ZipsMBB having to deal with Chris Beaver, Donnie Eppley, & Geoff Vejsicky.

Pathetic season. Unless they get hot in the tournament (possible, but unlikely) this will have been the worst team since 1996/97, more than twenty years ago. Some flagship program! Kent State basketball hasn't fallen all the way back to bottom-feeder status, but it sure has fallen to mediocrity.

First, hats off to our students. Our kids were louder, stood the whole time, and joined every cheer. Second, you can complain about the MACC all year, but walking into the JAR puts things into perspective. What a dive.
Now, what is going on with our rebounding? After all these years as HC, how is our offense not better? I saw some X & Os being run, but the execution is terrible. Our luck last year was due to Jimmy Hall. Senerhoff should give his bonus to Jimmy. If not for his play in the post-season, Rob could be packing his office after next year. Our inside game is weak. Ball handling is sloppy. Travels all over the place. Did I mention one of the basic fundamentals: defensive rebounding?

The Akron program is in total disarray and finishes 13-17. We are stable and finish 15-16. Something isn’t working. We are losing ground in a lot of our programs right now. I’m not sure there has been a worse winter season since some time in the 1980’s. Women’s basketball has been way down for 6 of the last 7 years. Wrestling has tanked the last two years (a little better this year but still not very good). Even gymnastics has derailed this year. Something needs to be done differently or maybe the lack of funds has finally become impossible to overcome.

I agree. We might as well be watching a cricket match. Stop shooting the the first 6 fouls (unless in the act of shooting) like the NBA. Cut times outs to three and if you don’t use it in the first half don’t take it away (I am sick of stupid timeouts in the first half). TV has added a lot of time to all games but overcoaching in basketball, football and baseball is becoming absurd. It’s added just as much time as TV. You can fix that half of the problem for free.

RE: Kent State @ Akron
AlphaFlash, I was very critical of both Hall and Senderoff early last season, while still acknowledging the obvious, that Hall was their best player. But then by mid-season I admitted I was wrong about Hall and then eventually about Senderoff, too. At this point, I am not really optimistic about the future of the program. I don't see them as heading towards the bottom on the MAC. But i don't see escaping middle-of-the pack status either, unless the personnel improves. That means either some players already on the squad need to ratchet up their game, such as Peterson, Duling, Frederick, Johnson (is he even still around?), Bernstein and Nwankwo, or/and some of the newcomers to the active roster next year need to really be able to play well immediately.

Two worst arenas in thee MAC by far. But isn't a Kent fan calling another arena a dive make you into a blind squirrel? That new JAR video board system is far better than any other arena in the MAC. I guess you just like the old 1950's style scoreboard in the MACC.

Both schools are stuck with doing "lipstick on a pig" improvements. Akron has just gotten a head start on buying more lipstick than Kent. You can build an improved practice area that a fan never sees or spend the money on getting more fan satisfaction from the game experience. When will Kent finally eliminate the floor bleachers on three sides of the court?

The MAC Center will be renovated in the next 3-5 years. That is part of the Universities 1 billion campus makeover plan. I’m not expecting anything lavish but I’m sure it will be much better than what it is now.

BTW... Kent state is in a very good financial situation unlike the University of Akron which is anchored in so much debt one wonders if they will ever get out of it.

neither team made a FG in last 6 min, a foul shooting contest is not how the game should be decided. Refs took control of game in second half. no flow to game and very hard to watch or enjoy.

I go to a few Division III games every year - without TV those games seldom go beyond and hour and 15 minutes.
