MVC Prez's meet next week during Arch Madness- Murray St voted in?
On the Murray St board, some posters say they will be in the MVC by June.

On an MVC board, a rumor is that St Louis officials need to plan for 12 teams for Arch Madness next year.

The 12th team would likely be from the Horizon, which will take IPFW for backfill, unraveling the Summit. March can be a busy month for realignment.

What teams might be willing to join the Summit League? The ones I can think of are North Dakota, Chicago State, and Missouri-Kansas City.

Been saying for some time that the Montana's and Idaho will be coming over. UND will be joining next year, and if we were worried about a conference relying on baseball to keep an autobid, we never would have dropped it. iMHO, the Summit will start football then and not have to concern itself with baseball or men's soccer bids. Western Illinois to the OVC and ORU to the WAC.

North Dakota is joining the Summit. http://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/4...conference

Chicago State would probably be a waste of even a hurting league's time. They are struggling just to stay open. UMKC might come back.

I bet they won’t agree on a #12 and Murray gets screwed.

Why do they need a #12 when 11 is perfect size for a 20 game schedule?

RE: MVC Prez's meet next week during Arch Madness- Murray St voted in?
I think Kansas City wants to come back based on the recent review of their athletic department.

If the Summit finds itself down Western Illinois and Purdue-Fort Wayne, then its only realistic path to survive is to become a FCS conference.

Summit: (*non-football)
North Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota, South Dakota State, Montana, Montana State, Idaho, Omaha*, Kansas City*, Oral Roberts*

Big Sky:
Eastern Washington, Idaho State, Portland State, Sacramento State, Weber State, Southern Utah, Northern Arizona, Northern Colorado, UC Davis (football only), Cal Poly (football only)

Missouri Valley: (*non-football member)
Northern Iowa, Drake*, Bradley*, Loyola-Chicago*, Valparaiso*, (Illinois-Chicago/Wisconsin-Milwaukee)*
Indiana State, Evansville*, Southern Illinois, Murray State, Missouri State, Illinois State

The only thing that doesn't really make sense is that Montana has been rather particular about wanting to play in California. This could be an opportunity for the Summit to offer football-only membership to Azusa Pacific, who parks their other sports in the WAC.

If the Summit grabs a fourth Big Sky school, then the Big Sky probably reaches for Azusa Pacific themselves, unless if they can convince Cal Poly and/or UC Davis to join as full members.

Why wouldn't the Big Sky then grab schools from the WAC like Seattle U UVU CBU GCU?

It certainly is a risk, but I would suspect the Big Sky wans to keep its focus as a FCs conference. Part of it will depend if Eastern Washington flies the coop, as that likely cuts out Seattle. Cal Baptist will have no advantage over Azusa Pacific other than having started the transition out of Division II sooner, but CBU doesn’t sponsor football. Weber State will not want Utah Valley, which not that long ago was a junior college. Grand Canyon might have some support (Northern Arizona, Southern Utah), but the for-profit stigma and lack of football get in the way.

Azusa Pacific throws Sacramento State a bone by giving them an in-state opponent, and it helps Northern Arizona as well, and they play football. I could also see Dixie State get consideration as they would be near the geographic center of the conference, and have good facilities, perhaps better than some current Big Sky members.

Good point. A lot of posters worry excessively about the difficulty for the intern to use scheduling software to make a schedule with 11 schools. The horror of each school have 2 bye days over an 11 week schedule or alternately playing a December game in conference for TV exposure. How inhuman to demand an intern input 11 schools and their gym available dates into the software instead of 10; The horror! 04-jawdrop

But I also think 20 games is a separate issue. You have some tight parameters to work with, such as the date of Arch Madness (a week later might not get TV coverage, or as much attention), and the beginning of league play (already starts December 22nd-28th for first games), and compactness (I guess you could play 3 games in one of the weeks, especially at the start of January before classes get going, but is that ideal?). So I'd put that separate from a decision to take an 11th.

They may prefer 12, but why push for the 12th immediately if the right candidate isn't there? Things are likely to shake up in the next few years, making a better choice down the road available than today. This is an option that should be considered.

That said, a few posters on the MVC board hardly constitute a decision by the MVC to add anyone. So I'd be skeptical of all this.

Well said - besides, the Big East already gives its teams 2 weekends off during the conference season. The byes are already built in to the schedule.

GCU has their hearing on if they will be allowed to become a NP again. But the Sky doesn't offer baseball which is one of GCU's main sports so unless its a do or die situation then I don't see GCU really jumping to the Sky.

The Horizon commissioner has said that it seriously wants 12 or 14 teams. Could see IPFW and Robert Morris jumping over. The schoos at risk of joining the MVC seem to be Milwaukee, Ill-Chicago with lesser chances to NKU and Wright St.

W Ill would want fb to stay in the MVFC, so it would prefer to Horizon to the OVC, but very doubtful the Horizon wants them.

IPFW going to the HL would end the Summit? You really are desperate for your dream to occur. IPFW leaving wouldn't do anything. UND are coming in next season, expect another add (UMKC or UNC) within the next 12 months.

Oh, and WIU are going nowhere. The HL do not want them, they don't want the OVC, and if by chance they did go to the HL, they would need a new home for FB. They would be booted from the MVFC.

Yeah. I got the impression the public schools extended the private school members an olive branch with the last two additions that the private members won't reciprocate. And who knows...didn't Belmont turn down the Horizon last time around? I thought it was for SoCon...maybe it's MVC? If you're going to refuse public schools, maybe this time you offer a private one that can actually find its way to the NCAAT? Jury's still out on Loyola if they can close the deal this season.

Poor olde Jacksfan. On a realignment board but doesn't understand that the Summit must have six baseball teams and six men's soccer squads to maintain its autobid. Rather pathetic poster knowledge as usual. Losing IPFW, ORU, or Western Illinois would all threaten to end the Summit autobid because UND doesnt have either sport. But a football Summit would end the requirement for baseball and men's soccer and that is what will happen.

Wait a minute....The guy who is laughed at constantly is throwing shade? You're no better than a flat-earther but yet you feel like you can talk down to someone when you have been wrong on this topic at least a dozen times.

Know that my comments are commonly laughed at by the dufuses on the bison board, but they don't have the reasoning power to think that IPFW wants to leave. Plainly obvious from Ft Wayne papers but that is too much work for bison and jack fans.

Well aware of the auto bid. I also know how the process with the NCAA works, and trust my athletic department, NDSU's athletic department, USD's, and Douple. All of whom have gone through this before and all have made the right move EVERY time. Can you same the same about UND? A school that is now on the verge of losing your President. Someone who may be reading the tea leaves and realizing he is on a sinking ship?

The only people I see living in fear of the Summit collapsing are UND fans, led by you. Let us just be honest, UND made a mistake in moving to D1. They were far better off as a D2 school with D1 hockey.
