RE: Akron @ Kent State
First, congrats on the win.
Now... What a terrible basketball game. Was the team at a kegger last night? Weak passes, chippy fouls, the turnover on the inbound. (The easy inbound.) Akron simply played worse than us. It is getting more frustrating seeing how the defending champions can't get up for the game.
Did I really spend $30 to walk through a mud pit and watch that junk?
Also, the dozen Akron fans were more annoying than usual.

If that rises to the level of a tech, then there should have been about a dozen techs in the game. No one know what was said by the Zip which seems to me to be what provoked the situation in the first place. If the double techs were based on what was said, so be it, but the physical contact was nothing.

The game wasn’t even particularly chippy, which everyone expects when they play Akron. I didn’t see anything that warranted the call. Complete overreaction. But like I said, if it was based on what both players said, so be it. That’s actually the only thing that makes any sense given that it was offsetting technicals and the Akron player didn’t do anything else.

I know if that kind of contact drew a technical foul when I played, nobody would have lasted 10 minutes before fouling out.

RE: Akron @ Kent State
I thought Pippen had a good game - he only had 4 points but 8 rebounds and 3 blocks in 22 minutes. Duling had 13 points 24 minutes.

Avery had no points with 5 minutes left in the game and ended up with 16.

22 for 24 in free throws, that was helpful. Jimmond Ivey was 1-11 from the field, he's averaging 14 points a game.

Nearly full MAC Center - some seats open in the rafters. Not many people rooting for Acorn.

So you’re saying it was an intelligent crowd...

I couldn’t see what happened but for a moment it looked like the coaching staffs were going to go at it so I suspect the verbal exchanges were not discussing the weather.

But isn't it funny when your junior point guard attacks the hoop how good things happen? Imagine how much could open up for players like Walker, Pippen and the 7'0 footer if KSU started running more sets with Avery in control.

Don’t want to ruin that assist to turnover ratio.

RE: Akron @ Kent State
Not necessarily great basketball, but an exciting game and a good win. We're starting to really get exposed when De La Rosa is on the court. We seldom have the length advantage on the perimeter and it's making it easier for teams to prevent us getting it to him deep. And if he doesn't catch it deep it usually doesn't turn out well. I documented the vast difference in efficiency on possessions used by Avery vs. AD last game and I'm sure nothing changed in this one. Need to run through Avery more.

Duling has made huge strides this season and is shaping into what we were expecting. He made some big momentum changing plays today.

As for the technicals I think axeme is right that the Akron guy got it for something that was said. When the players left the court Groce was livid (which is actually his resting state) and Sendy was calm. Then they reviewed it st length specifically looking at the AD shove. It did look like at least one of our assistants was getting into it with Groce too. It makes sense that the refs heard what was said but didn't see what happened though. They say when you lose one sense your others become more sensitive and since the refs seemed to be blind their hearing is probably better. And by that I mean both ways, they made some truly garbage calls on both sides.

AD needs to be smarter though. It seemed clear that Akron's game plan was to get under his skin right from the jump. Their big guy was poking and proding him early and often. Several times AD threw his hands off him and turned to the ref. Unfortunately those tactics worked and got him to do some dumb things.

Finally, I seriously don't understand what Walker did that people have a problem with today. I don't feel like getting into this again but I'll say this. He leaves everything on the court and I really appreciate that. He won a big rebound late between Akron's 7 footer and one of their bigger guards that was pure effort. I felt he helped the momentum a lot too by trying to get the crowd up several times.

Speak of the 7 footer. I looked and saw this guy is a freshman. Groce has some transfers sitting out. Akron worries me in the future.

He has good size and looks to move well but he has a long way to go before he's someone to be worried about. He fouled out in 20 minutes with 2 points and 2 rebounds today. On the season he averages over 10 minutes a game, is just over 1 rebound and just over 2 points. Despite putting up nearly no stats, he is around a turnover per game. Also, he's not a freshman straight from HS. He went to a prep school for a year so you would expect him to more D1 ready than HS freshman. They do have some nice looking transfers though.

During live action, I’d agree with you. This was dead ball shenanigans which is a totally different scenario. Absolutely no reason for anything to happen here. Go to your locker room and get ready for the 2nd half...

Some things of him remind me of Edwards as a freshman. He had games that would frustrate me to no end his first year. We'll just have to see how his development turns out.
