I'll second that.

His problem is he didn't learn to shoot from outside or he would have had plenty of playing time this year and next.

Since he can't, he became a 3rd string point guard and without an injury, we don't really need one.

Not having him the rest of the way is not ideal but the season is pretty much already shot. Unless you think we can win 4 games in 4 days.

He won't have any problem finding a half dozen schools lining up to sign him next year.

And, I seriously doubt that UAB puts anything out about it. He just won't return next year, quietly.

They are not going to kick him off the team or announce he quit if he quit.

Lavender gone. Our depth was once considered a strength but now I’m not really sure. Smallwood is on scholarship but rarely contributes any minutes.

Lavender going may be best for both parties in the long run. But I think it’s going to complicate things even more in the short term.

Longer term it will be interesting to see how Ehsan goes about recruiting to fill that spot.

They've known for 2 months he wouldn't be back next year.

A certain big needs to become a manager or find another place to play next year.

That way we can fill the spot with someone who has a chance at contributing on the court.

From what I've been able to get, his intent was never to leave until it was clear that his relationship with Rob was not going to change. I've also been hearing that it was not his decision to miss the game(s) earlier in the season. Lastly, I've heard that more will leave. By the way, anyone know what happened to JD? He could probably shed some light on the player coach situation that is developing here.

Rob is the coach. But, if I were the coach, I probably would not have played him any more because of the way he shot last year. And presumably it was not any better this year in practice.

No coach benches guys who can help the team.

As for JD, someone, the daily dragon guy maybe, implied he could not return but I don't know what that meant. Grades or legal troubles or what? But I don't think he would be getting a boatload of minutes if he was still here because he can't shoot from outside either.

He is 28.9% in juco. Usually, guys drop about 5% when they transfer to D1.
(Their first year, then they make up it up the following year)

My speculation based on not playing in or after the AU game was he thought he could transfer and then have a year and a half of eligibility left. That is not the case. So he was talked off the ledge, returned but sat out another few games and then worked his way back.

But, according to a poster here, I'm a member of the Lavender family who has been a UAB fan for 39 years. Just in case deon would have been born and then transferred to uab and then got caught in a logjam for minutes.

I don’t know anything factually, but my guess is the route he took had something to do with grades/eligibility. He showed enough potential to contribute here, it’s hard to see us running him off. Maybe i am connecting the dots incorrectly though.

RE: Deion Lavender off the team?
Smallwood has retweeted members of Lavender's family multiple times about lack of playing time so I'd say it's an easy assumption that he won't be back next year. Other underclassmen transferring doesn't make as much sense unless it's McCoy but he shouldn't be on scholarship in the first place.

Really! Here it is mid February when the team is beat down tired and given no choice but to run suicides. Thank goodness coach Bartow never took the barbaric approach as make any of his teams run suicides in mid February as punishment for losing two games in a row riddled with missed three point shots and turnovers. 03-puke Coach Ehsan and his assistant coaches should have been the ones running suicides.

Crane said family matter. The rest is simple math. Does not take a brain surgeon to figure it out.

But, if you are confident he didn't quit earlier in the year, how about a huge wager?

Didn't think so.

No. I am just curious what happened. You seem to know the whole story. Wondering how you know? You wouldn't be a Lavender family member would you? Otherwise, you are just making a bunch of guesses.

And you are always wanting to wager on anything?

I'm confident in my educated guesses. You are trolling.

you are the one who said they lied with NO INFORMATION to back it up. you did not say "I don't think it was a family issue" you said "Because "family matter" was a lie." then got defensive when you were called on it. someone calling you our for talking out of your ass is not trolling. if you don't like people questioning your statements stop acting like you know something is a fact when you don't. its simple all you have to do is start the statement with something like 'it appears' or 'it looks like'.
