So on one hand you're saying we won't see MHJ play anymore as a Monarch, and on the other hand you're implying he's not transferring, and thats just a poster "freaking out". So unless he's sick, or quitting basketball somethings not adding up. Any details you can share? Any idea when this scoop might become public if it happens.

One thing I've learned in well over a decade of posting, from monarch nation to caazone to these boards.......where there is smoke........99% of the time, there is fire.

Also 757 and letsgodu are not hyperbolic in nature. I would imagine the tea leaves are not that difficult to read here.

Young talented freshman, buried on the bench of a slightly better the mediocre basketball team, very highly rated and sought after........ you know what comes next.

Even if I want jones fired, I hope for Odu's sake he reconsiders......but if he doesn't......it's yet another player leaving on bad terms which has happened far too often under Jeff.

If he is leaving, not only will the "fans" who hailed him as a savior during the offseason look stupid YET AGAIN, but if we fail to make the NCAA tourney and then lose Stith and Caver, its curtains for Jones and anyone who disagrees needs their fanship to be called into question if they support him getting more time.

On this one I'd rather jones stay and keep the kid but if he's gone, Jeff has this year only to do something or GTFO.

Has there been speculation that these 2 are leaving? I know they have a year left, but haven't heard anything about them graduating to make them eligible for a grad transfer.

Don't give it a second thought. He's just trying to paint the bleakest picture he can.

FWIW. BJ graduated last May. So if he was going anywhere, it would have happened already.

I know we have been missing out on the bigger games but hell we are 18-5. Jones, caver, Stith and MHJ are not going anywhere.

If you don't mind 757, I'm gonna try and interpret what you are saying.

757 has heard from a source he has, Hueitt is unhappy with his playing time and is thinking off transferring .

It would be a shame. If he would buckle down and not give up his time would be just around the corner. Like I predicted, Godwin is getting his chance the second half of CUSA season and we saw last night what he can do. It could be both of them, might just need to bring it harder in practice to get his shot I'm guessing. I'm thinking of Haynes almost giving up .He sure seems glad he stayed and boy has he helped us. Sometimes you just gotta wait your turn.

Some think there is a conspiracy theory that Jones is out to ruin a freshman’s career. It seems to me he should have redshirted to put some size on and as others indicated work harder in practice . Sure he has a stroke but basketball is much more than that. If he was able to be a minutes grabber he would be playing more period .

He's probably thinking he could've just sat on the bench with #6 Cincincatti if he was going to sit. Probably came here thinking he would play

First, let me say, I really hope Hueitt stays. I think he could have a bright future.

But, I did want to address the bolded point above. Yes, a lot of players have transferred in the past few years. But, over 700 players per year now transfer. That's more than 2 per team. Every year. For better or worse, that's just the name of the game now.

BJ's dad is a coach. He isn't going anywhere.

This is Caver's team. He isn't going anywhere.

Not sure if Porter has or will graduate. If so, he could potentially leave. That would put us in a world of hurt.

What we need to be focusing on is ensuring Porter stays and picking up a Jonathan Alredge type grad transfer for interior depth, assuming the 3 true freshman recruits will either red shirt or only be able to provide limited help.

I hope Hueitt stays and takes that next step, but with Caver, BJ, Green, Kitchart, and Godwin, we will have plenty of backcourt talent to work with either way. The real gap is in the frontcourt. Unless we get some help, we will have to rely on a true freshman to play about 20 minutes per game to spell Porter and Carver.

Great points - hmm interesting thought on Porter .. strangely that seems feasible as I’m sure bigger schools would call on him being it’s nearly impossible to get good bigs .

That is true, but this one would sting a lot more considering how stoked we all were when he came here and a lot of us (myself included) thought he would be a key to an improved team. While players transfer in and out, I don't think we will be getting a transfer who can shoot like he can since we never have. It would be a pretty tough blow.

Porter graduated in December, I believe. Is it possible that he moves on? Sure, I suppose so. Am I going to worry about that right now when we are one month from the conference tournament; a tournament that we have a legitimate shot at winning? No. I think I'd prefer to just enjoy the ride.

RE: MHJ
That's tough. You can promise time IF you meet these criteria. I imagine your back is against the wall if you have a kid that wants to play immediately, period. I think of my sister. She was SO hard headed. She would not listen when I gave her advise. She had to figure it out the hard way and fail. Some kid hear "you have to improve x to get on the floor." and they either improve it or they don't. They aren't the coach. Period. Are there 2 sides to the coin? Yes. But ultimately if a kid is expected to learn the defense and can't do it. They don't see the floor. Looks like Godwin found a spot playing zone but not m2m. So, he's getting into games now. Seems pretty straight forward to me.

RE: MHJ
Wilder benched our starting QB for missing a mandatory team meeting. Some were kind of like woah that seems tough, but by the end of it everyone seemed to agree that if you have rules you have to enforce them no matter who you are. Jones doesn't get that same level of treatment. If he has a level of play he deems necessary to see the floor, has team rules in place, etc. They're too strict, he's a bully and destroys the kids confidence, etc.

Is that double standard because of the sample size? Losing 1 player in BB is obviously way more catastrophic than losing 1 player in football where the next man up is really ingrained in the sport out of necessity due to injuries?

So we are all on the same page, is this coming from inside knowledge or speculation based on a lack of playing time?

757 has implied that this is inside knowledge and not just speculation, with concurrence from another poster. Time will tell if this has any merit.

RE: MHJ
Every player has end of the year interviews with the coach. At least that is standard protocol for most schools. I have heard that the coaching staff loves MHJ and that they believe he is going to be a star. I also understand that freshman can be very reactionary due to immaturity. It is tough for a guy to come into a program after being THE guy at his high school for many years. When Hueitt, his mom, and the coaching staff have a chance to sit down and weigh the options, something could change. I am praying for that.

RE: MHJ
Sounds like Hueitt came from a good family.

How much AAU ball did Hueitt play? I know his high school competition was very low. Being undersized and not playing tough competition could be one of the reasons he's been slow to get on the court. I hope he is frustrated because I don't want kids that are satisfied with sitting on the bench (unless they are walkons). Is he discouraged because Godwin has made progress and we have a higher ranked recruit coming in next year?

Hopefully, he fully analyzes his options. The staff seem to like him and he committed early. Where would he go where he would be willing to sit out a season and then hopefully play? The best schools on his list are MTSU (would be hard to get on court) and Missouri (probably would not get on court). Does he want to go play for JMU? It makes far more sense for him to stay and probably contribute next year since Haynes is gone. Him, Godwin, and Green will probably play a lot of 2/3 minutes and BJ will probably play some 4 minutes.

He played in the best AAU circuit in the country.
