Just saw that Mamaoudou is being Red Shirted.....

I thought maybe this was a companion for Red Pants.

I seem to recall seeing him play in several early games this year. Can he still redshirt?

My understanding from reading elsewhere is that he is injured and this is a medical redshirt that will be requested. If so, he got experience early on and an additional year.

Yep. Just can't play in more than 30% of the regular season games and can't play after the halfway mark of the schedule.

Correct. He is not eligible for a redshirt as NCAA rules state even one minute of play during the regular season counts as a season of eligibility. He will have to receive what is known as a Medical Hardship Exemption.

To receive this he will have to show he sustained an incapacitating injury or illness that only allowed him to play in 30% of UC's scheduled games (so 10-11). Its my recollection and understanding though that a player does not get granted this extra year until after they exhaust their 4 years of eligibility. In other words, we won't know if he is given this extra year until the 2020-2021 season. Someone correct me if they know differently.
