They used a cool new technique for detecting empty spaces by detecting and recording falling particles over several weeks time. They have found a large open area above the grand gallery and a likely passageway to it at the front entrance of the pyramid. It appears to be another large designed room and passageway. They may have found a few other things as well.
Its worth a watch a watch if this stuff interests you.
I really hope there is an undiscovered chamber full of ancient Egyptian wonders. It would be one of the greatest discoveries in recent archaeology and a treasure for all mankind.

There was a scan of the whole region done using satellite-based ground penetrating scans a few years back and it uncovered thousands of undisturbed sealed tombs and even new pyramids still under the sand. The scientists said its such a large cache that it makes the currently known tombs to be about 1% of what is actually there.
Problem is the Egyptian government still won't let anyone go dig them up.
So essentially we now KNOW there is a treasure trove of untouched artifacts just sitting there under the sand. It's not really fantasy now, its an actual fact.

Absolutely maddening and a crime against humanity.
The Egyptian government will let you turn the pyramid into a water slide and a beer joint for the right price. Trust me. They just haven't been greased correctly yet.

it makes 'noah' sense....
It's elementary, my dear Stink.
In order to dig that stuff up, they'd have to shut down the biggest tourist attraction in the world.
me (s)tinks they call what would be 'staging' that would yield minimal impact...
They mystery is half the attraction. If you dig up the history, then it loses a chunk of appeal. If you dig up 10 more pyramids, is it more or less mysteriously attractive?

They are deathly afraid of change.
sounds like most folk I know in the 'sip.....
I would choose driving the allure of discovery to create more attraction and interest......but that's just me.....

Me too, but it might line the other guy's pockets.
Remember, antiquities tourism is all over the region.
The structure itself has to be understood in a greater context. The construction is wonderous but mix in location, direction, astronomy, religion and it is amazing.
