Grizz actually looked pretty good tonight. Any time you beat the Lakers it’s a good win!

So tonight we go 15-21 from 3, score 128 points and lose. This season just keeps getting better.

In fairness, no team beats GS when they are hot and emotionally charged with Curry’s return at home.

Spurs built their dynasty on David Robinson's injury year and the tanking that led to Tim Duncan

The Griz are - at the moment - not the worse team in the NBA and have won 3 out of the past 5 games. The season is still young and when Conley returns the team will be better equipped for victory.

The Griz are currently only 6.5 games back from a playoff spot.

Has a team ever come back from 14 games under .500 to make the playoffs?

But getting a top 5 pick benefits this team more than getting swept by the Warriors, Rockets or Spurs

That is tongue in cheek, right?

No, I think Conley makes a big difference and the quality of teams vying for the eight spot is considerably lower than the top NBA tier. There is time to make up lost ground.

It is doable, IMO.

A few issues:

Memphis was only 7-6 WITH Conley, so to project them to play much beyond .500 ball when he returns belies what their output was.

Secondly, more Conley = less Tyreke. It's not like Tyreke will play 35 mins a game if Conley comes back, so there will be some productivity dropoff from what Reke brings.

You would also not have to catch just one team, but jump five others.

If the expected 8th place finish is 40-42 (being generous on the low side) Memphis would need to go 28-17 (.622) the rest of the way, while New Orleans would only need to go 22-24 (.478).

And, even if doable, what does it get you? A sweep by GSW and another draft pick outside the lottery?

And add in the fact that the 3 wins were over the injury depleted Clips, the injury depleted and bad Lakers, and the Kings (who are just plain ole terrible). Combined record 39-68.

The move here is trade Tyreke and hold Conley out, then shut down Gasol for foot soreness. Then come back strong next year with healthy Gasol and Conley + high draft pick and try to make the playoffs.

Agreed. Initially I was on the blow-it-up bandwagon...but Verno has talked me out of that.

Vernon is speaking with his heart not his head. The best move for the Grizz is to get as high a pick this year as possible draft Bagley or Young.

One of those around Mike and Marc then make the playoff push next year.

Making the playoffs this year does nothing for the future of the franchise. That's what it should be about at this point the future.

Tanking this year, keeping Mark and Mike is not blowing it up-- it is tanking for one year to heal and to get one more piece.

Trading Tyreke may look like blowing it up but he is on a one year contract and he will be too expensive for the Grizzlies to sign next year so you HAVE to trade him and get as much as possible for him.

I ASSUME that Brandon Right will be gone at years end or at most be resigned at the league minimum.

Griz just went 6:52 without a made FG to close the 3rd....yet somehow built on the lead during that stretch.

That was some really ugly ball I just witnessed!!!

Winning today on MLK Day on TNT was pretty special. The uni's looked much better than last years sleeved versions. The city, the FedExForum, and the Grizz all looked pretty good on national tv today. Well done.

Good win for the Griz, but puts a crimp in the tanking plan. 03-wink
