IF you're giving a coach an extension, then come out and issue a press release making it official, explain why, give the rationale, and the basics regarding length.
An extension should be a reward for success or achieving certain goals which means it's a good thing. If it's a good thing, then there's no reason not to make it public.

This thread was started with a comment that there is "noise" coming from the locker room about an extension. This would make it a rumor and if true, then there are probably negotiations taking place. You generally do not have a press conference until things are finalized. They would have no reason to keep a contract extension a secret.

Can someone remind us how SF improved the Athletic Department on his watch?

+1000 Please, someone, tell us. And--"The Yard" has bouncy houses for kids, doesn't count.

To be fair the yard is an improvement. I'd give him that.

No surprise nobody hires this guy. I love settling for mediocrity. Frazier and Carey are two dumbasses that are slowly suffocating the program. We think the program has regressed now, imagine if Carey gets an extension.

I'm hoping it's just talks to keep him motivated through the year.

STF is nothing more than a snake oil salesman. He commented recently on an article regarding Sycamore HS new video boards for football and basketball (which put any NIU has to shame). He still claims they will be doing something with the Convo video board. Truly think he’s stating to believe his own BS.

The video board in the Convo is SO bad. Whenever the put up something written I never even bother to look because you can't read it.

I would, too, but was hoping for something better.

--at this point, Lisa Carlsen seems like the right person and a very solid hire
--I do appreciate the efforts at bringing P5 football opponents to DeKalb, although I do feel that none (or a very select couple) are close enough or have immense alums in the area to help attendance

Carey and Monty, rightfully at times get blasted here, but it really starts at the top. Perhaps, with the state issues, suppression of non P5 teams, Frazier is in a no win situation, but there's just not enough tangible evidence to support that STF deserves a high passing grade in my book.

I will always be Forward Together Forward, but the bar was set high (probably too high) with and after the Orange Bowl and the basketball team has been mediocre or much worse for a decade and a half.

I like Carlsen but personally I’ll see what she can do without having one of the best ever to wear the uniform. Lehman was the heart and soul of the team Carlaen’s first 2 years. She is down to 9 players this year due to injury so the latter half of this year may get ugly.

Still bitter about STF and anytime his name is brought up. Venting.

Frazier’s done a great job with:
- The Yard
- SchedulePalooza
- OOC Scheduling

OOC scheduling, in particular, has been A+ since he’s gotten his hands on it.

But if he extends Carey and Carey bombs, all those positives are for naught and he’s erased all goodwill. He better be right if he inks Carey again.

The OOC scheduling is okay - for the away games. But, I'm not a fan of 4 big OOC games with 3 being away. I understand that they're doing this for the money, but once again the fans get screwed with only 5 home games. Then, 2 or 3 of those games are on weeknights. This is okay scheduling for the purse but not for the fan who wants to attend games.

SchedulePalooza and the OOC Scheduling are one in the same.
Any further extension of Carey simply puts NIU athletics deeper in the hole financially.

Not sure I get saying a coach can't be evaluated just because they have a good/great player on their team? By that logic, we should only consider a coach good if they win without good players? Doesn't make sense...

Master Plan has turned out to be hollow as all the ones before it.
Major disappointment.

When we get a new AD, we will have another Master Plan. It is part of their job description.

Where is SF as the master builder? The last two ADs left their footprints. The Yard does not count, any intern could of developed that party area.

My fault I presented it poorly. Simply put personally I’d have a hard time firing a coach for poor team performance, aside from blatant issues , until he or she has brought in their own recruiting classes. Other side of the coin I personally would reserve judgment on positive on court performance until he or she has her recruiting classes. I’m all for Carlsen being long term. Think she’s done a great job. I just want to see what she does with her own players.

Granted Lehman was a once in a decade type impact player. So far Poisson has been a great addition but this years freshman look overmatched for the most part. Player development is key and I’m sure the staff will get them headed in right direction. Injuries have thrust some kids into valuable playing time they weren’t expecting.

Sorry for the long winded version.
