I guess I was not clear on what I meant. Most of those people are getting their news from one of the three staples, ABC, NBC, CBS. So all they hear is how much money companies like Wal Mart will be saving and they get nothing. I'm sure the believed every word of it.

Today....what WalMart saves is no longer a problem. They just were given a 9% raise or $143 dollars extra a month. Money they would not have got if not for the tax cut to WalMart. Working people living pay check to pay check....cares about living to that next check. This just helped them more than do just that.

So now they dont give a **** about whaT the media was saying or what WalMart is saving

Walmart was going to be forced to raise the minimum wage in 18 states anyway so this has as much to do with it as that. 07-coffee3

Dude, did you ever take an econ class? Even had WalMart raised the wage in those states no way they would do it across the nation unless there was this tax relief. This is econ 101 stuff.

Nothing would have forced them to do it but you cannot say that it didn't influence their decision.

You can't say that it did.

for those going from $10 a hour to $11 it's 9% raise and adds up to $1716 more than they were pocketing on a 33 hour work week. Those that want to dismiss this because of the money WalMart taken in and will save on taxes. Means nothing to the people going from $10 a hour to $11

That $143 extra a month can mean a lot to those who are living off the $10 a hour.

The question I have for the hate Trump people. Do we see that increase without Trump in the White House? Let me repeat...those getting the 9% raise don't give a **** about WalMart getting a tax break. They care about what they take home.

20 years ago those people made up a lot of democrat votes. Now the party has left those people.....$143 extra a month. Trump is probably looking a lot better to those 1 million democrats.

They should care, it's why they are getting the raise. Anybody that doesn't get that is ignorant or just plain stupid.

So 18 states raising minimum wage had nothing to do with it? Do you have a link for that?

Sure, here you go. Notice that 16 of the states had increases that are still below the $11 per hour walmart is putting in place.

The workers in the other 32 states say thanks. And it's not the minimum wage, it's Walmart's starting wage.

I never said tax reform had nothing to do with it. I simply said it wasn't the only factor.

Everyone knows the tax reform was going to be a big deal for corporations so you aren't telling anyone anything new.

Meanwhile, Wal-Mart is abruptly closing Sam's store locations across the country today, not even notifying employees.
So, for the bump in pay, other Wal-Mart employees are unemployed...it all offsets somehow.

It's a big fuckin deal to those getting bonuses and pay increases as well...

UofM skewered your idea that Walmart HAD to raise pay in 18 states anyway. At BEST Walmart would have been pressured to raise pay in 2 states.

Bottom line is the tax cuts are a much bigger deal than you would like them to be and you will do just about anything you can to downplay them.

Oh, and not a single democrat can take credit. Gonna look really bad going into the 18 midterms if things stay the course.

Unless 100% of the Sam's employees affected are absorbed into Wal-Mart stores, it's not unrelated - gotta maintain that bottom line.

So in other words, if WalMart give raises the pay for everyone it's because of Trump even if 18 states required it anyway.

But if Sam's is closing stores, Trump had nothing to do with it right?

Sams clubs are for suburban well to do shoppers. You don't see poor minority shoppers there paying 75 dollars just to join. Besides Costco is under cutting Their prices.

In other words, noone has been fired, they are just closing the store. Sounds like they will be reassigning workers to other stores.

So, for the bump in pay, other Wal-Mart employees are unemployed...it all offsets somehow.

I know basic econ is hard for you libs. These matters are completely unrelated though.

Sams clubs are for suburban well to do shoppers. You don't see poor minority shoppers there paying 75 dollars just to join. Besides Costco is under cutting Their prices.
This. We have both here. The costs for membership is about the same but Costco is better at keeping items in stock and the stores tend to be cleaner plus the prices are cheaper. Been loyal to Sam's for years but Costco was better here. I even had the membership that allowed me to make money off purchases to be put back on to my membership.

Unless 100% of the Sam's employees affected are absorbed into Wal-Mart stores, it's not unrelated - gotta maintain that bottom line.

Closing down Sam's Clubs that are losing money is a business decision. Paying employees more because they see the labor supply/market becoming a bit more competitive because of the corporate tax law changes is different.
