Played only a few snaps in his time at Iowa. Here is a link to his recruiting coming out of HS, which was Detroit Country Day.

That's a puzzling sign. Wiegers is not a dual threat QB, which is what I thought CC wanted. And hardly any college experience.

I agree, they must think he has a chance to start otherwise they wouldn’t make this move. Maybe they just want someone with multiple years of “college” experience not necessarily playing experience to be on the roster.

Exactly! He finished #2 in QB competition at Iowa that from all reports went down to the last week of fall camp so I'm sure our staff considers his chances to be our starter to be pretty high.

Here is a very good article which puts everything into perspective.

Nathan Stanley is the one who beat him out. Stanley is a good one. Very good stats.

RE: 2018 Football Recruiting
From my humble opinion, I believe we still need the following positions to make a run for the 2018 MAC Title:

1) A 310lb+ DT
2) Another stud Juco WR
3) A stud Juco offensive LT

Assuming we get adequate QB play, I believe we could win the MAC if our February signees could jump in and be starters at these positions.

Why Not Us for 2018, Why Not Now?

Let's win it!

This article provides more details: Narrowed his choice to TOL, BG, and EMU, all three close to his home.

http://www.wtol.com/story/37184003/forme...pe=generic

And a good thing that we played Kentucky last year and he knows, first hand, that we have a quality program.

He's listed at 6'2" 290 but I'm guessing about 310 or so. Plugs holes. Run stopper. Not fast. Won't be able to rush the passer. Takes two to block him when he lines up in the gaps.

Very interesting prospect. I like big DTs who can plug the middle.

Would love to get this kid, 6'5, 230. Plays primarily split out wide and seems to have +speed for his size. Could really create matchup problems wide/slot/TE. 9 TD's almost all red zone fades in endzone.

I think we redshirt all the incoming frosh offensive linemen.

Yes, from this I believe he has 3 to play 3. Looks like a June 2016 h.s. grad. BTW, apparently played baseball too in h.s. Thinking of Prince Fielder. Both big guys.

I assume he'll complete his associate's degree this spring which is why there was no rush for him to sign early (Dec. 2017)

Just a P.S. thought:

I hope we redshirt all frosh recruits.

If we need immediate help in the 2-deeps that is what the redshirt frosh and JUCOs should provide. The equation is simple: Look at the departures and see which frosh who redshirted can replace them and augment with JUCOs, as needed.

E.g., if we need another OT in the 2-deeps that should be Sidy Sow. I don't see any jUCO OLs.

As always, having an extra year to complete academic studies is a good thing.

I'd be surprised if Sow is not a starter. May rotate early as we seem to like to do with linemen early in the season. With ALL of these guys coming back, it would be disappointing if we don't see marked improvement up front in the run game.
