RE: JMU - CAA Game 2
Love how this team is continuing to grow. I know winning 3 games in 3 days with very little depth is almost impossible, but wouldn’t it be something, and how poetic it would be, if this was the year ....

Regardless, so proud of this team, coaches and program! It’s gonna be an awesome next few months, and no matter what, this is a great season and an incredible building block for the next few years with our great young core and impressive recruiting class coming in!

This team is continually growing before our eyes, has tons of heart, and the coaching staff is doing great! It shows what happens when you play together and for one another.

As has been said, “The strength of the wolf is the pack and the strength of the pack is the wolf.”

Go Tribe!

Bi!ch and moan, bi!ch and moan, win or lose...

Not sure how saying Cohn is doing more on offense and playing better is complaining, but you do you.

That's all you had to say the first time.

As usual, you're moving the goal posts ... er ... basketball nets.

Cohn is having as good a year as any Tribe guard since I've been following Tribe hoops. Instead of making jabs about prior years, and other posters, may I suggest that you find the joy in what is happening this year, and right now.

Finally, in anticipation of the usual accusation of censorship ... no ... it's simply push-back against what I consider to be unwarranted negativity. You're entitled to your opinions, and so am I.

TCU is rolling and OSU is playing lights out in the Big10. Mason is acting like Mason, the RPI killers.

Turns out, we played a difficult OOC scheduled and look pretty good coming out of it, save the OSU game. Jumped right in league play and knocked off both opponents.

RPI is currently 62 and climbing.

I think MrJ mentioned this, but Milon is quietly having an All-CAA season. Maybe leading in scoring and rebounding tonight will garner some recognition.

Big game at UD Friday, where we've been cursed most years. Gawd, I hate the Boo Hens.

RE: JMU - CAA Game 2
Any road win is a great win. Really rough first five minutes to start the game. Credit to JMU for extending their defense out beyond the arch, bumping off our cutters, and generally disrupting our offense. Team showed a lot of poise, by not panicking and not abandoning the offense. Something I recall happening last year. Credit to Shaver for mixing defenses and finding one (1-3-1 zone) that gave JMU trouble.

One of my favorite moments of the night was when the JMU coach tried to throw the 1-3-1 zone look back at the Tribe and Cohn broke it down in 5 seconds with a beautiful bounce pass from the top of the key to the low block to Knight for a dunk/layup. Hilarious, considering it took JMU about ten possessions to figure out the weakness in the 1-3-1.

Great to be 2-0 and sitting atop the league. Enjoy the ride. This team is really fun to watch.

I'll post as I care to post within the rules as I always do, but thank you for the unsolicited advice. Now if you don't mind I'd like to enjoy beating a rival. You should try it, it's quite fun.

The pep band had a number of signs that they held up throughout the game. The funniest one was when David had that crazy steal, behind the back dribble, ridiculous layup, and one--the girl held up a sign saying, "Are you even trying?" Yes, I think he was trying there.

If you were ever going to win three CAA road games in a row in six days, these would be the teams you would want to face (JMU/Delaware/Drexel)...as opposed to say Charleston, Hofstra, and Northeastern for example. Could this year’s team chemistry be an example of addition by subtraction?

Going to be Tribe overload on Friday at 7:00. Both the men and women are playing at the same time. I'll have one game on my computer and the other on the Ipad. If one team is doing well and the other not so well then the emotional rollercoaster might be tough to take. Two wins will solve that problem!

Don't be juvenile. It's unbecoming a law school graduate. Your snark affects your credibility. There is no joy, nor any "enjoy", in the overwhelming majority of your posts, just overwhelming snark and negativity.

And while you're growing up, bone up on your reading comprehension, and read post #193 in this thread. To suggest that I should try enjoy beating a rival means you didn't read / chose to ignore #193 ... but yet you did respond to it earlier (whoops, my bad, you responded to a different poster initially). So, why would you suggest that I do something when I already posted that I was doing it?

Not cool.

It's posts like yours that make it hard for fellow Tribe fans on this Board to enjoy beating a rival as pushing back against your snark takes some of the joy away from the night.

Please, grow up.

RE: JMU - CAA Game 2
This team is really something to watch. They are evolving with each game and can be used at the poster boy for playing true team basketball...what a pleasure to watch them mesh unselfishly as a cohesive unit.

With four starters gone who really looked forward to this season?

Yet here we are at 9-4, playing brilliant team basketball, forming the nucleus of a potentially wonderful William & Mary team for now and future years. Knight-Milon-Pierce, our deadly soph corps,
form the basis for a solid future. Cohn has reached a new high level and, in my mind, is the runaway CAA point guard of the year. And Birchfield? Not just his amazing 3-pt shooting, but doing other things on the court we never saw before.

And the defense? Hey, they outscored JMU 47-26 in the second half last night and on the road.
Had to play some defense there.

You have to love what is going on.

RE: JMU - CAA Game 2
A few observations & opinions about the season so far ...
-- From the arc, Tribe is shooting 55% at home (84-151) and 37% on the road (86-108).
-- Tribe is shooting 82% from the line in CAA play (80% on the season). Clutch.
-- Rowley's minutes played have not increased from last year. Appears to be a result of Pierce's improvement and the emergence of Milon.
-- Jihar Williams, who showed some potential in non-conference play, is not in the rotation for CAA play. Has not gotten off the bench in either conference game.
-- We've all commented how Tot has had a positive impact with his passing, ball-handling and defensive intensity, all while not scoring a point the past two games. Kid is a heck of a passer.
-- If Cohn were to be injured (heaven forbid), I've gotta think Tot would move back to point guard (where he backed up Cohn last season) and get most of the minutes at point, while Loewe would stay in a backup role.

Jihar Williams, while a fantastic shooter, needs to show he can do other things to earn time. Right now that is difficult the way the other guards are playing. Running the offense and defending are at more of a premium than an offensive shooting spark off of the bench.

RE: JMU - CAA Game 2
One of the many things that I really like about this team is that there is no one "go to" guy on this team because every starter on this team is capable of, and comfortable with, being the go to guy. As a result, we do not have players standing around during crucial junctures of the game looking for someone else to put the team on his shoulders. Even Paul Rowley comes into the game at that crucial point when Nathan picks up his 4th foul and immediately gets a 3 point play when JMU was trying to make a run.

Five go to guys may explain our success in close games.

RE: JMU - CAA Game 2
Jihar kinda reminds me of Burchfield light at this point. A great scorer, but can struggle in other aspects of the game. Burch has shown a lot of improvement, especially in rebounding, and his defense has improved enough (He had a great steal last night). Given time I think Jihar will do some great stuff, and I hope he gets at least some time in CAA play this year, but I get why he's on the bench for now.

Twice this week you've written condescending, paternalistic posts telling me what I should write about. I don't care for it or appreciate it. I'm here to talk about W&M and I do so within the rules. If that's a problem ask Tribal to ban me and make you happy. If not please let me post as I wish as I let you ramble on about Purdue and the CBI.

There's still some small samples at work but everyone with more than 10 FT attempts on the season is shooting at least 70% from the line. Knight has almost as many attempts as Cohn, Pierce and Milon (2, 3 and 4 on the list of FTs attempted) and is shooting 78% so teams can't just hack him and get away with it.

Huge factor in close games late, like last night. We can leave Knight on the floor for rebounding, defense, etc if something goes wrong but not worry about a Hack-A-Nathan scenario.

I am really impressed with the growth of Pierce. He looks like a different player and has become a difference maker.
