Mr. Batshit Bitterman found a way to attack Trump and people he doesn’t like via the metric system. Outstanding! Bwahahahah!

Dude, the English still use stones for weight colloquially. As I said in my post before, it was also opposed heavily by unions.

Metric system is fine except for Celsius. That measurement blows.

As someone raised metric, I also dislike Celsius. For weather F is far superior.

Actually like Celsius. 30 is warm, 20 is nice, 10 is cool, 0 is ice.

I would favor a law that everything had to be expressed in both. Kind of like Canada's English/French law. If people started using it and figuring out that metric was easier, I think we would evolve into converting.

For weather I agree, although the point of Celsius is to have a standard in which 0 and 100 are the freezing and boiling points for water. In that respect it's simple for science, but too vague for easy use in everyday life.

no question....the scale doesn't pass the eye test....

the only part that makes sense is 0 or 100......the rest is utter bs.....

Admit it

If Obama came out and said we are going to convert to the metric system the Trumpsters would be against it just because it came from Obama. Meanwhile if Trump came out with it fine folk like muah would applaud it because it’s good for the country.

You aren’t going to get the people who would vote for a pedophile because he has an R next to his name to Support the metric switch but they sure would if one of their leaders supported it. Hell morals and integrity mean nothing to these guys. Just the magic R. Exhibit A : Roy “if it bleeds it breeds”Moore.........

The huge advantage is the metric system crosses all measurements. Length, weight, liquids, ....... how many feet in a mile? How many pints to a quart and a quart to a gallon.

A second grader in China knows all of these. Hell half of you have to look it up or wouldn’t bet your life on being right. Heck deci, centi, milli, deca, kilo.......learn these that are all based on 10 and you got it. Feet in a yard. Yards in a mile???? You don’t know that. A 3rd grader in Bangladesh knows how many meters are in a kilometer.

nobody is arguing what you are in relevance......

and what you continue to ignore is how embedded our UoM would require to change in cost.....

99.99% really don't give two shites, nor have the capacity to understand....

at that point, wtf is the point......

humans.....no question, we are an interesting study.....

I worked on a project once that used a foot divided into 10 even increments. Jokingly called metric inches. Ever heard of that?

I use this measurement system every day in the aerospace industry. It keeps the same inch, foot, yard system we have, but allows for measuring in very small increments.

I have to hear more about this 'why'......please elaborate.....

what are you measuring, what is the mfg cycling, and with what yardstick????

last time I checked, micrometers were en vogue for pure accuracy at that level.....

aerospace engineering......

I must ask for more technical info before I write anything else....

Well, when they first started using the units of measure, the inch/foot was the measurement system everyone used. Given the close tolerancing necessary, I'm guessing a bit here, they converted inches to hundredths and thousands.

We have stuff that is 6/7 feet in diameter that we machine and measure to +/- .003 and smaller diameters that are machined to +/- .0002. I'm not even sure how you would express and measure those numbers using our standard system.

Btw, a human hair is about .004 in diameter.....

While the metric system seems the logical system to use, when this system began to be used very few Americans knew the metric system so it would be really hard to mentally have a frame of reference.....for me it still is when I see a drawing defined using the metric system....

FFS Mach, this is America. We are smart enough to use English and metric.

No we’re not. Not using the metric system hurts our kids in math. Sorry gents. It just does.

Teaching them fractions using the English system hurts their math skills? Sorry Mach, prove it.

We should probably have a keyboard where the most commonly used letters are more spread out for faster typing.

We should probably have a base-12 (dodecimal) number system instead of a base-10 (decimal) system.

Some things you're just stuck with even if they aren't optimal.

We are America. We don't adapt to the world. We do what we want. We don't care what the world thinks, or if what we do is not convenient for other nations. Personally, I like that about the USA, and hope we never change. I have zero interest in being a global citizen.

When I was in college and studying at the University of London, a fellow student from England remarked that we Americans filled the trash bins faster then any other foreign students. To that I replied, "If you don't like our habits you should have won the Revolutionary War".

If you truly understood the metric system then you would know that this is wrong and the exact opposite is true.
