Decent at what? Football?
This year, they went 6-5
Last year, they went 6-5
2015, they went 6-5 and beat Georgia State early in the year.
2014, they had a legitimately decent FCS year, going 9-5 and making the FCS playoffs
2013, 6-2 vs FCS, 0-2 vs FBS and no playoffs
2012 5-4 vs FCS, 0-1 vs FBS and no playoffs
And so on and so on. Basically, they've had exactly one good season (and it wasn't really that great in FCS)
So lets add it up....Since Turner Gill showed up, Liberty has gone 35-25 versus FCS (averaging 6-4 per year). Most of those wins are against the complete dregs of FCS. They did go 3-6 versus FBS during that time, but beating a 1-11 Baylor team, a transitioning to FBS App State team, and Georgia State really doesn't portend greatness. And basically, LU was an average FCS team with a FBS budget and facilities. Throwing money at the wall without a coherent plan doesn't usually work out well. They're welcome to try to play as G5 with a P5 budget and G5 level facilities and coaches. I don't think it will work out any better for them.

I think they have a problem at head coach. I think he got lucky in one year at Buffalo and then has proceeded to suck ever since. I also don't think LU realizes that Gill isn't a good football coach. His entire career was built on one game, basically....a win over Ball friggin State of all teams.

And even beyond the other issues with Liberty, what does anyone get for playing them other than a check? Beat them and so what? Lose to them and get embarrassed. No reason to play UMass either other than to simply fill a slot on a schedule. Scheduling them is a simply a sign that your AD can't get games with real teams.
