RE: 2018 Official Verbal Thread
My only complaint is that I'd really like to see at least one semi well regarded QB in this class. Our QB recruiting has been abysmal for the past 5 years. It's really the only thing holding this team back. Hall may be decent but he's young and has a jacked up throwing motion. WMU has a top 25 pro style QB that got a good amount of P5 interest coming in. He'd be starting for us next year if he came here.

It's maddening how bad the QB situation has been over the last 5-6 years. Hare was decent before his rash of injuries. Maddie was never going to play at WMU so he came here, Graham had no offers and wasn't well regarded at all coming out of HS, Santa looked okay but wasn't getting tons of college interest and was always a turnover machine, Childers was never going to play at Memphis so he came here. Two of those guys likely came to NIU due to family connections. You need to have a top 3 QB in the conference to have a chance to win it.

We've had a couple of very good QB prospects who flipped right before signing day.

Yup. We also had another good recruit who made it to campus quit football after his freshman year. Landon Root

At some point those stories/excuses get old. The coaches are responsible for finding and developing a QB. Get it done.

And my comment in regards to this class and the lack of a QB is still legitimate. I can't understand how they don't have at least one promising QB lined up

Have you not watched film on our current QB commit Jiya Wright? He absolutely looks promising. Great touch on his deep passes and is very athletic and can run. Wouldn’t be shocked to see him starting in a few years.

Hell yeah. Keeps his head down field, elusive, makes people miss, touch on his passes and bigger than his competion.

Yup. He’s going to walk in as our best passing QB next year (which isn’t saying much) He looks more elusive than Childers too. That’s why i wouldn’t be shocked to see Jiya take the reigns sooner than later. Based on what I’ve heard about Hall’s passing ability, it sounds like we may need to pull a Britt Davis there

Why is no one talking up Jyran Mitchell? He's the highest rated QB I can remember NIU landing and a guy who had 7 other offers. He's also all-state in track. I admit I haven't seen him play, but if we are talking about prospects I think he should be talked about ahead of Hall or Wright.

Is he that good? I assumed wr or secondary for him. I keep mixing up him and the other dual threat commit from IN. Both are short but so is Childers.

We don’t have any other dual threat commits from Indiana. Assuming your talking about Brummett or Mitchell? If so, both said in their interviews after committing that NIU recruited them as WRs.

Jiya only plays QB and Carey tweeted that NIU had their QB for the class when he committed so it’s safe to safe that he’s going to be the guy.

The proof is in the film I’d say. He’s got the best throwing touch I’ve seen from a NIU QB commit in awhile. He definitely looks promising so it will be interesting to see how he develops. Height doesn’t really matter too much for a QB in this offense. As long as he’s over 6ft he’s good (not sure we’ve had a QB over 6’2” since we’ve been running the spread offense)

I was getting jiya and jyran mixed up. So Mitchell is going to wr potentially? I wouldn't mind seeing brummett on D. Put on some weight be an edge rusher or olb.

Have you seen video of Brummett. He’s extremely agile. Long strider. Makes guys miss. He will make a nice Wide Receiver.

Yea he does look pretty good. We definitely need somebody to take over the reigns before long.
