RE: 2018 Mens Hoops Recruiting
verbalcommits.com today lists another offer by the Dukes out to a '18 target...

https://www.verbalcommits.com/players/ody-oguama

6'9" and only 185 = rail thin...but perhaps that body can be sculpted...maybe a stretch 4?

I watched Pelham's kneecap crack in half during midnight madness a few feet away from me . Hard to forget that.

Kid looks like an option if the Dukes don't land Alanzo Frink. He's an inside 4 player more than a stretch player just needs to bulk up.

6'9" and 185? Makes Vladimir Cuk look huge!

Ha ha. Just think, for comparison purposes, Develle Phillips is 6'9" also and he's listed at 210 pounds. He looks very thin on the court. He has one undervalued characteristic that he uses at his advantage and that is very long arms. Imagine what DP looks like at 6'9" and 210# and then think of 25 pounds lighter with the same height.

But, to NJ's point, he can likely put on weight wherever he winds up in college. Playing underneath at 185 will be interesting to see. This is why I hypothesized a stretch 4.

I think I have two years eligibility left. 6’1 195. Hits backboard occasionally. Can touch bottom of net. Strong ball skills while dribbling with one hand occasionally. Alternate underhand toss for free throws. Great player with jump balls against 5’4 and under opponents.

Plus, the 8 year olds in your neighborhood have you at legend status. Going out and blocking some 8 year olds' shots and talking trash to them after each one in the driveway can be quite a rush.

While the Dukes could use a front court recruit in this class I don't think that player will need to contribute right away with Phillips, Jacobs, Scissum, Jones and Wilson on the roster. You'll likely see a wing (someone who can replace Snowden- for example JMU is recruiting a Juco Rodney Culver Jr. who would slot in here) and the PG as the immediate contributors for next year.

RE: 2018 Mens Hoops Recruiting
Just an update Christian Guess a Dukes target just scored 57 in a game and it looks like his interest is starting to ramp up. Judging from the coaches around him and their social media posts he is searching for a high major offer. St Bonaventure's, Bradley, and Illinois Chicago with recent interest and West Virginia U is showing interest as well.

Who knows where he will end up- there was some talk that Darius Banks may end up higher major and he wound up committing to JMU ultimately and it's worked out well for him early in his Freshman year.

More like Scissum who is 6'8 and listed at 205 when wet.

RE: 2018 Mens Hoops Recruiting
A buddy of mine who coaches here in the 757 has a freshman on his team we offered this past summer. He texted me after his game last night, “my freshman JMU offered just scored 38. JMU better stay on him.” This was against a perennially strong team down here in this area that has put a lot of guys in D1 and a few in the NBA, albeit probably not as strong competition as some of the Delmarva/dc teams overall though.

Offered another PG for 2018 out of FLA

https://www.verbalcommits.com/players/michael-forrest

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/highs...story.html

Looks like they play a tough non-conference schedule to prep for 8A

The 2019 target, Kenny Isnord, goes to the same 8A FLA HS as 2018 PG target Michael Forrest.

Only Hofstra & Navy are after this recruit right now, but from following his twitter mentions he is a high scoring PG against tough competition.

JMU is hosting 2018 PG Ephraim Butler for an unofficial visit this Saturday. He has gone on unofficial visits to COC, Coastal Carolina and North Carolina A & T. Wofford also appears to be recruiting him. Check out these articles and news story on Butler. Seems like a very nice young man who is making the best out of a tough personal situation.

I hope he chooses JMU, but even if he doesn't, I'll still be rooting for him. Good job, young man.

RE: 2018 Mens Hoops Recruiting
I'm kinda giving up on Christian Guess. Not only is he getting interest from bigger programs now, but he recently was suspended for a couple of games I think it was for receiving multiple technical fouls. He's obviously very talented and he could be a difference maker to Rowe's roster (and by golly we need all of those we can get), but unsure if he'll bring some unwanted baggage and be a bad investment in the long run.

Alanzo Frink still remains a very intriguing prospect. He too I believe did not sign in November with the likely thought that he will also receive attention from some bigger programs. I still think JMU has a chance. At 6'8", his size is desperately needed...along with his skill set of course. Even if he is a more perimeter-oriented player, at 6'8" he can defend, rebound and bang in the paint most likely.

Regardless, Rowe definitely needs at least one power forward type in this spring's signing period (or transfer too).
