Gorsuch's Early Reviews: What Right Hoped For, Left Feared
Quote:The 50-year-old justice has been almost exactly what conservatives hoped for and liberals dreaded when he joined the court in April. He has consistently, even aggressively, lined up with the court’s most conservative justices. He has even split with Chief Justice John Roberts, viewed by some as insufficiently conservative because of his two opinions upholding President Barack Obama’s health law.

Liberals’ despair about Gorsuch goes beyond his judicial actions. He occupies a seat once held by Justice Antonin Scalia which they thought Obama would get to fill. But Senate Republicans refused to consider Obama’s nominee, a strategy that paid off when Donald Trump unexpectedly won the White House.

While his confirmation was pending, the liberal Alliance for Justice worried that Gorsuch would often embrace the most conservative outcome on the high court.

“Our concerns were confirmed,” said Nan Aron, the group’s president.

Yay for further politicizing the SCOTUS nomination process! I'm sure that this won't end up harming our Union in the future, nor will it ever be used by your political opponents! Hurrah! Go team!

Don't worry, the Dems will never get a chance to govern again - at least for a generation or 2 at the earliest. It's over...for now.

Nominating him has been the best thing Trump has done in office, and not just in a 'probably better than Hillary' or 'sorta entertaining but facepalm-inducing Trump-being-Trump' kind of way either.

Drama much?
How did it harm the Union?

If anything the Gorsuch nomination kept balance on the Court, replacing a conservative with a conservative.

It would be more way more harmful for the Union to have the Court lean too far one way or the other.

The SCOTUS nomination was the biggest reason I voted Trump. The effects of a Supreme Court nomination are far more lasting than a president.

A Dem complaining about the politicization of the judicial nominating process is rich

Yeah, because Dems don't try to appoint leftists and GOPers don't try to appoint righties!

But you go!

And that was definitely a risk. Look what GHWB got us. You just never know.

I do though love the irony of the lefties warning the us that Trump was a liberal campaigning in conservative clothing who would screw us over once he got in office. He's exceeded my wildest dreams, reshaping the judiciary of the country topping the list.

Please. Apparently, you've never taken a history class and studied the hero of the Democrats, FDR. This isn't even minor league stuff compared to what he tried to pull.

The bad thing for Liberals is that Trump is filling the lower court positions(that are lifetime) with conservatives. That... plus the very real possibility that he will be able to put at least another conservative justice in place before his term is over may make him the most important POTUS for conservatism since Reagan. His appointments will be a factor for several decades to come.

And, of course, this is just the Supremes. Trump's loading up the federal benches with conservative judges at a pace faster than any other president in the last 40 years.....and all thanks to this guy.

Thanks Dingy!
