WBB Game 6: Richmond (4-3) vs ODU (0-5)
The ODU WBB team will play the Richmond Spiders on Sunday. For those that can not come to the game, it will be on ESPN 3. The Spiders are coached by Michael Shafer, who is in his 13th year at Richmond. He is a graduate of W&M (class of '94) who played on the men's basketball team. So he is very familiar with ODU. Traditionally his team have strong fundamentals.

The Spiders top two leading scorers are Micaela Parson and Alex Parson. They are sisters. The senior is leadiing the team in points and the younger sister (the freshman) scored 27 in her last outing against Wright St.
The Spiders game is plan is simple. Run, run, and run. They play have ten players who average 10 minutes of play or more. They have a deep bench and they use it to the team's advantage. Their players run as hard as they can and they subsutitue a lot. They are going to try as hard as they can to turn this game into a track meet. Fee, A. Parson, and Duggan are the team's main three point shooters.

Try not to be too impressed by Richmond's stat line though. Yes it is hard to score 100 points against any team, but the team they did score 100 points against really is not that good on defense. This early in the season, it slightly boosts the team's averages to make it seem better than they really are.
The good news is that we have made it through the hardest part of ODU's non-conference schedule. Eventually we will get the first win of the season. One take away from the Duke game is that this team will fight to the end. Even with the game out of reach (in terms of the score) they will try. For example, Carley Brew came off the bench to grab a career high 4 boards and went after almost any rebound that was in her area. It was pretty impressive when you consider how much taller the Duke players were on average. But she didn't back down at all.
