So, I’ve been thinking...
I’ve been reading these posts for months. You guys mentioned Lane Kiffin took FAU from 3-9 to 7-3. Another coach that took a bad team and made them 8-3 is Jeff Tedford at Fresno State. Jeff Tedford was the quarterback coach for Lane Kiffin when he was a quarterback at Fresno State. When Tedford was in college being quarterback at Fresno State, he threw passes to RU. So why doesn’t Rice just hire RU so we can finally win some games.These guys took these programs and made them better. RU came from where these guys did. Trust me, RU knows what he’s doing.

We will sit down and watch high school games and college games and watch what their offenses look like. We will see the same plays that we run weekly with our youth football team. I’m the quarterback for the team and RU will tell me the play and what will happen before we even get to the line. After the play, RU just smiles when the other coaches don’t even know what to say. To Be Honest, I want RU to stay coaching me and not in 6 years, but I’m fine either way.

So, you’ve read all the posters on here and you STILL wanna play for Rice? Something wrong with you, kid. I like you. You’ll fit right in :)

I just might even preorder my season tickets for, what, 2023? Maybe sooner than that if we somehow line up an all-SWC alum as HC before you get here.

I have thought your dad would be a fine coach for years now. I think what he really was interested, he needs to convince some other former players (Hambone10 doesn’t count, not because he is biased but because he is a kicker). Then those former players would need to convince JK. Otherwise, I think the perceived risk (from an athletic director’s perspective) is just too high. Being conventional and making a conventional hire is the easy route for an athletic director.

Without kickers, there would be no FOOTball.

I have been in RU’s camp forever, for exactly the same reasons his son (excuse me, that’s futurericeqb12) talks about. His football knowledge is extraordinary and he appears to have an in-depth understanding of how to apply it. He does coach at a high level, he wants to coach, (I believe) he wants to coach at Rice, and he IS a coach....so what’s the problem and why the delay??

Lack of unconventional wisdom?

I want him here in some capacity—HC, OC, receivers coach, consultant. I’m not sure it is realistic to get him hired as HC, but I want his ideas incorporated somehow. The most attractive part to me is the potential to develop relationships with the Med Center, which I think are important to both program revenues and the university as a whole. Making football a center to pull those two together addresses a lot of issues. I have doubts that the level of effort require to develop that relationship leaves sufficient time for all the off-field BS that goes with being head coach. But his ideas about how to move a football have merit and deserve to be incorporated.

RU for OC, Owl69 for HC, and Hambone10 for AD.

I love it. It's clear that RU thinks in 4 dimensions and most other coaches seem to think in two.

My list for Santa....

Tanner as AD. He has worked tirelessly, got numerous projects done, and more importantly is open and willing to engage every Rice supporter.

Owl69/../.. as Asst AD in charge of implementing RU’s Med Center plan as well as other corporate alliances.

RU as HC. For all the reasons many of us have believed in since 2009.

Thor as perhaps OC. But anywhere RU would want him....as long as he publicly burns his UH gear.../s.

Hambone in any position he would like on or off the field.

Shu absolutely needs to be retained and given even more responsibility.

ND Kalu should be approached if interested as well as other former players in all of the sports who have job experience in areas needed by the AD. Would also like to see more volunteer assistance by former players even if it is simply providing their advice.

There are others in the current department who I consider very capable and should be retained (Mello for one. Once again he is the face of the AD that many of us come into contact with).

Of course I want to come here! I initially wanted to play against USC, but realized that game would be played in 2022, so I guess I could be a winning QB in 2023 when Rice plays Boise State.

No, his hand-eye (or eye-hand) coordination ranks amongst the worst I have ever witnessed. He has a classmate that might be futurericeqb12's future backup at Rice (Peyton and Eli Manning's nephew).

If we could somehow bring back MK, the list would be complete, IMO.

MK was awesome-still follow him and very enjoyable. One could only hope.
