(That's why the Big East should have just gone ahead and invited us as a full fledge member rather than just women's field hockey... I kid! I kid!!) But we do need to bring in some good DII teams looking to make a move up the ladder of success. I just don't see many current DI teams that'd want to come to BSC.

I think the BSC is f*cked. Conferences that have schools that don't play all the main sports are generally unstable. Look at the old Big East they had big network contracts and they still couldn't stop from falling apart. The BSC doesn't even have that to hold us together. It needs to be a full member requirement or the school can look elsewhere.

RE: New BSC Members
The Big South is a collection of poor, private schools for the most part. It sucks for Liberty to be a part of that but the conference has been overachieving lately (ironically while Liberty has worsened). Expanding the footprint will probably do more harm than good as far as finances go. Existing schools adding football is probably not going to happen, though the non-football schools such as Winthrop, UNC Asheville, and High Point typically carry their weight in men's basketball so it's hard to criticize them. Presbyterian is pretty much dead weight though but they participate in football which makes them important for the auto-bid.

Honestly I think for now this is a good deal for both conferences. The auto bid is super important to LU and with Chadwell gone at CSU should be yalls yearly.

I suppose Chuck So. will continue to rule the BSC, unless their new coach is a bust. I imagine Kennesaw St. will make a push to become the new kingpin. I hope the BSC succeeds. They need to attract a handful of teams though to plus up conference size.

I think there is a perfect storm brewing for Kennesaw State to dominate. I think it is only a matter of time before they become a powerhouse but they overachieved last year and CSU is likely to worsen coupled with Liberty's departure presents a great opportunity for KSU or anyone to take the reigns of the conference.

Actually, my gut says, KSU should rule the roost in most sports.

And there are rumblings and hopes expressed by some that KSU will eventually officially declare their intent to be FBS, of course in the SBC.

I can easily envision KSU as an FBS member. Indy/SunBelt/C-USA? Don't know that they have the money to make it as an Independent. Doubt GSUs want them in the Sun Belt. C-USA doesn't need to expand. But hey, if they have the ambition, they should be afforded the opportunity. I'd hope Liberty would schedule them. GA/Altanta is a great recruiting area.

RE: New BSC Members
FINALLY back after some login and tech issues!

So.... USC Upstate and Hampton to the BSC.

There were always rumors of Hampton joining, but USC Upstate is a surprise. What’s to be gained by leaving the Atlantic Sun?

Better geography for USC Upstate. Now they are in a conference of mostly Carolina schools and some Virginia. But I would say the Big South is a slight step up in over the A-Sun.

I'm from Spartanburg, it's within 300 miles to most of the Big South. In the A-Sun they only had one team within 300 miles. Competition is similar plus it adds chances for natural rivals (PC, Winthrop, CSU and GWU which is 30 miles away). They have good academics, growing school, they invest money (4million a few years ago on the basketball arena) and a great softball program. I'm okay with the add.

RE: New BSC Members
As was pointed out by Jon over on the other board, LU receently began a strategic partnership with Hampton. I wouldn't think it was outrageous to suggest we may have played a role in their entry. This puts the Big South at 12 outside of football including us technically as an associate member. It could ultimately lead to the league pushing us over to the A-Sun to make way for another football-playing full member or two.

This Hampton move also will alllow there to be eight football members including associates (don't forget North Alabama is on the way in 2019). If Presby goes to the Pioneer for football as expected, that means the league maintains some viability should they lose another school. If Presby does vote to move football to the Pioneer, you can expect the league to consider inviting two more MEAC schools with Hampton's archrival Howard being the obvious candidate. Of course, none of this matters to us now other than potential impact on our non-football membership.

USC Upstate has made sense for quite some time. Very nice add for a Carolinas/Virginia-centered league.

If two more MEAC teams are brought in I do hope it’s Howard, NC A&T, or Bethune-Cookman.

Bethune Cookman is embroiled in severe financial instability. The former prez resigned amid reports in the Daytona Journal of funny financing regarding dorm construction costs. Lots of bad local press and expressed doubts the school can recover. This bad news happened about 90 days ago and things have been quiet since about that time. A huge NO to Bethune Cookman.

Howard and A&T would be the likely candidates with the Florida schools and Delaware State available in a moment of desperation.

I would say SC State and NC Central would be a go before the Florida schools.

SC State is on the verge of merging with Clemson and losing their athletic department. NC Central is losing their reason to be Dvision I if more high profile MEAC schools bolt. They only moved up a few years ago to compete with the A&Ts, Hamptons and Howards.

Where are you from? SC State is not merging with Clemson lol. Sure, you could make the argument that they have financial issues but they are getting it together.

Tht's not what some friends in the SC Leg have told me. And "financial issues" is putting it mildly.
