Season Stats, averages...
I guess the Basketball Website has alleviated season stats and averages. All I see now are individual game box scores. Whats up with that?

I have my own.

I hate the new website. Very un user friendly. I think the athletic sire is run by a third paltry, one that runs most of them, since every schools looks almost identical.

Back in the day, for the first eight seasons of UAB basketball, 1978 through 1986, I did my own play by play charts as I listened to road games(I attended all home games). I learned how to keep play by play charts in high school. They were created and developed by Tennessee's Ray Mears long ago and my high school coach taught me how to keep them. As a team manager I kept the charts for games. The chart was called O.E.R. and D.E.R.(Offensive Efficiency Rating, Defensive Efficiency Rating). Back then, Ray Mears and Tennessee seemed to be the only team who could consistentlly defeat Adolph Rupp's Kentucky Wildcats, teaching his players by using these charts as reference to their efficiency.

I remember keeping this play by play chart one night during a UAB road game when Andy Kennedy was playing and UAB scored seven points in one single offensive possession. How is that possible? Andy scored a three pointer, got fouled, missed the free throw, UAB got the rebound, scored another three pointer, got fouled and made the ensuing free throw, thus being a seven point play. Very rare.

Another unusual stat was against Auburn at Auburn when George Wilkerson and the bunch were playing. UAB had zero turnovers in the first half. Very rare.

It just goes to show you that there are much more to statistics than shooting percentages and rebounds. It is all about average points scored per offensive possession and average points scored by the opposing team(defensive possession), and points scored on turnovers. Keep in mind that in basketball, each team gets the ball (the same number of times) during any given game. It is not like football, when one team can hold possession of the ball for a number of more plays that the opponent.
