This article mentions Butch Jones. What are your thoughts on the likelihood of that and would you even want him?

I'd be OK with Jones, he has a great resume and will be coaching again soon. But I like a few of the other suggestions better. Tee Martin would be my first choice followed by Grass and then maybe Butch. Martin has no head coaching experience but he'd be well worth taking a chance on and he's known for being a great recruiter.

I think Tee Martin is a good choice.

Based on what has been said previously, I think it should come down to

1. Chris Hatcher
2. Tee Martin
3. John Grass

I don't think the others will take a pay cut and leave the SEC when plenty of openings are occurring. Tennessee, Florida, Ole Miss, maybe Texas A&M and LSU.

Whoever will be the new coach will need to work on cutting back on the penalties, catching the ball, better Oline play.

Grass relies heavily on p5 transfers and transfers with character issues at that. It's cloudy how well his success would translate to FBS- it's easy to look like a wizard when your games are men amongst boys.

I'm not familiar with the other candidates but am with Grass. The SBC and USA needs him as he is a great coach. Bad for the rest of us.

My main concern with Grass is that he has a ton of FBS transfers.

IMO like it matters from the outside looking in.

1. A Grass / B Houston
2. Hatcher
3. Chadwell
4. Campbell
5. Steele
6.Random good resume P5 OC / DC
7. Random good resume G5 OC / DC
8. Healey (stretch but you could get him cheap and take a chance on a young guy)

Which ones have character issues?

And you see no names were supplied.

Transfers have no more issues than high school recruits.

Have any of these players been an issue at Troy?
Kris Weatherspoon
Kamryn Melton
Sidney Davis
Jamarius Henderson
Tyquae Russell
Tevaris McCormmick
Damion Willis
Justin Wyatt
Kelan Chairs
Rasool Clemons
Ethan Calhoun
Steven Rowzee
Bobby Klemm
Dominic Walker
Baron Poole II

May have missed a few but anyways if any have been in trouble the news didnt get to north Alabama. Most transfers come for the same reason as high school recruits, playing time.

All true but I have no idea about the character thing. Anyone that relies on transfers in the SE must suck really bad at recruiting.

In the last few years of Blakeny's time at Troy, it definitely seemed like team chemistry was destroyed by the massive influx of transfers they had.

Same goes for USA with the UAB injection they had, cause it was quite large. It's not about character issues, it's about how your team "fits" together once it has that kind of composition.

No one is saying don't take transfers/JUCOs to fill in holes/depth wherever it might be needed, but you can't build a team without solid recruiting from the high school ranks.
