RE: Chattanooga Game Thread
We haven't beaten the crap out of bad opponents consistently in years. This is the most positive start to a season UAB has had in a long time. It's still hard to believe Bryant is a freshman.

Le Mount-Owens is 1-1, with a victory over Shorter.
Richmond is 0-2, having just been whipped by Jacksonville State.
Mississippi College is 0-2.
Memphis is 0-1, having lost by 12 at bama.
Troy is 1-2, having lost at Hawaii in OT late last night.
Auburn is 1-0.

The opponent is Lemoyne-Owen. Also the Memphis Bama game was on a neutral court.
Spell check got me on the first mistake. I didn’t realize the Memphis-Bama game was at a neutral site (Annapolis, MD). Thanks!

Gueye is such a welcome blessing to the improvement of rebounding and defending and scoring for the team, as well as the two outstanding freshmen guards. Unfortunately, he fouled out with five fouls in ten minutes, last night. Oh boy!

I think one of the "outstanding freshman guards" is a junior.

Good to see our team lay waste to a team like UTC. Anything more than one loss in next week's tournament would be quite a letdown but I see no reason we can't win it all.

1. Zack Bryant - 1st game 18. second game 17.
2. Terrance Roderick - 1st game 17 - second game 0
3. Demario Eddins - 1st game - 15 - second game - 16 (against Chattanooga btw)
4. Marvin Ray Johnson - 1st game 12, second game unknown
5. Javien Williams - 1st game 11, second game - 0
Everyone else had less than 11 in their first game.
So yes, Scootie has the record, unless someone didn't register in their first game and went crazy in the second.
Bryant 35
Eddins 31
I'm not going to do this after three games too
HAHA! You probably should've looked up Eddins third game just for reference! Thanks for doing that, I'm assuming Eddins had the record after 2 games as well.
My 1st two guesses would've been Eddins or Kinnard. Didn't Richard Jones have a pretty fabulous rookie year, then disappointed greatly for the 3 following seasons ?

I believe Richard Jones broke the single season freshman scoring record, just to be outdone by his fellow Freshman (Eddins)...So Jones never held the record (theres a chance I made that up)

11+ years later, I still can't type Eddins' name without thinking about what might have been in 2006.

Agreed. He appears to just be going through the motions right now.
Wait until Nick Norton AND William Lee join the team..
Don't hold your breath on Lee. He will do just enough to help out the team significantly and be a good player for us, but he will not be a superstar. He's shown he just doesn't have that in him. He will have a monster game and follow that with two so-so games, rinse and repeat. Cokley has looked a lotttt better so far this season.

Yeah you can tell Norton is still getting up to speed. He's had an uncharacteristic amount of turnovers and hasn't found his shot yet.

He played in Mexico for a season I believe, but don't know that he ever really recovered. I wonder if he ever got his degree? He was only six hours from graduating when he got hurt, but quit going to class.
He works as a stocker at Walgreens now, so I'm guessing he did not.

Wouldn't a situation like this need to be brought to the attention of the Foundation for UAB Athletics ?
Not for Demario in particular, but any athlete that is close to a degree but didn't finish for whatever reason. I don't know exactly how that part of their scholarship works / worked, if the door is always open to return and finish, etc.
If the Athletic Department or Foundation for Athletics has a plan in place, that's great, just count me oblivious.

I agree,
Let him finish up his degree, and put him on the basketball support staff.
