This thread series is where Southland gets its name out there. There may be some duds elsewhere, but Southland is the toilet of D1 hoops.

D2 GAC schools could compete against the Southland in all sports. One year, Arkansas Tech lost by 3 points to Northwestern State, La. in football. As is, many schools at the D2 should be considered D1 since they seem to get the better talent.

A10 really not having a good start this year at all. Richmond's Ken Pom rating started at 113, it's now down to 186.

Richmond's gotten off to a horrible start but for the most part it's going about as expected (the Bona loss was to a rival and without their best player, so I'm not as worried about them — yet).

the problem though is they already have 7 OOC losses, and have several tough games coming up in the next few weeks.

Makes the games like tonight with Rhode Island @ Nevada just gigantic games.

That's Embry-Riddle Arizona, a branch of Embry-Riddle of Daytona Beach. E-B Arizona is an NAIA school, while the Daytona Beach school is DII.

Where the A10 again came up short.

There's time; the conference has largely challenged themselves well, but, yeah...you have to win these games, and you shouldn't be losing to Jax State if you're Richmond.

Maybe Duquesne had the right idea playing a cupcake non-conference...come into the conference season and pound into that part of the schedule and watch your numbers jump. The annual throw-down with Pitt looks like a very winnable game for them.

I'll add that Embry Riddle AZ is in the worst conference in NAIA DII.

problem for Duquesne is the conference games won't matter as much.

looking at one of my favorite sites- RPI forecast- it uses Sagarin to project games and then show what RPI would look like.... A10 right now even before yesterday was projected to have 1 team in the top 55.

And vice versa for those playing and beating Duquesne with stinker of a non-conference like that. Of course, ALL of this assumes Duquesne is any good...that's not a bet I would make.

It's been a long time since the A10 only sent one. This very well could be the year it happens. The ranking you had going may have it right...a very good year for them in the NIT. Of course, they're already down with some of these bad losses.

FWIW, I would say most Midwestern CFB fans would put UWM above ISU in basketball pedigree.
