I think that you guys have always had the support of the "Western" schools, and perhaps an eastern school or two. . . . But there are some very vocal eastern schools that still want no part of the travel issues . . .

What will NMSU do without a conference? Independent in football? WAC for other sports? Drop to FCS? I'd hate for that to happen?

I feel bad for NMSU, but App State should not have to send sports teams to Las Cruces, NM. Unfortunately, the MW has not extended an invitation to NMSU. That does not mean it is in App State's best interests to have NMSU in the league.

The irony of A-State's support was that if the divisions were purely geographic Sun Belt East would have been App, GaSo, GaSt, Troy, USA, A-State in most sports. In football with 10 Sun Belt East would have been App, GaSo, GaSt, Troy, USA and there would have been no need for a protected crossover.

If we would have kept things as they are, Idaho and NMSU were willing to forego CFP money and even throw out some money for travel. Staying at a 12-Team League, the eastern schools would have only had to visit Idaho and NMSU once each, every four years. I don’t see anything wrong with that. I don’t like having a CCG with only 10 teams, and we can’t stay like we are this year since Idaho is dropping down. Looks like now, our only option is to add NMSU back with the addition of Liberty as football only members, and in doing so, would split up Troy and USA.

In a perfect world the CFP money wouldn't be based on a 10 team conf and the SB & CUSA could rearrange the deck chairs to give NMSU a conf home. But we don't live in a perfect world.

I wouldn’t mind NMSU as a football only member. It’s just too much to travel the Olympic sports.

Didn’t Idaho and Ga Southern have some drama because of a football start time? The Idaho AD was trying to start it at either a super late or early time to have the Ga Southern team play at time they normally don’t play?

I didn't vote because my feelings are pretty indifferent. GS doesn't have any real history tied to NMSU for me to care one way or another. Geographically it makes sense to not be in the Sun Belt I guess, but again, had they stayed I really wouldn't have cared.

That's the part of the argument I don't like. Very few teams actually would go to Las Cruses every year.

Men's soccer - NMSU doesn't have a team
Women's soccer - Outside the division, one road trip every two years at worst
M&W cross country - one conference meet, no travel unless the meet is in Las Cruces.
Volleyball - Outside the division, one road trip every two years at worst
Football - Outside the division, one road trip every four years at worst
M&W Basketball - Outside the division, one road trip every two years at worst
M&W Indoor track - - one conference meet, no travel unless the meet is in Las Cruces.
M&W Tennis - one conference meet, no travel unless the tournament is in Las Cruces. There are regular season matches, but no regular conference scheduling.
M&W golf - one conference meet, no travel unless the tournament is in Las Cruces.
softball - Outside the division, one road trip every four years at worst
baseball - Outside the division, one road trip every four years at worst
M&W outdoor track - one conference meet, no travel unless the meet is in Las Cruces.

There could conceivably be no trips to Las Cruces in a school year. The irony is you are already in the air, like you would for Texas State, UTA, ULM, and Louisiana. It's takeoff and landing that's expensive. Distance isn't much.

NMSU's big takeaway is not having a travel partner, not travel costs.

Obviously Georgia Southern wanted NMSU because we scheduled a Home/home with y’all immediately after it was announced y’all were leaving.

It's in the LEAGUE's best interest to have them in the league.

If JMU is a no go, I'd take Liberty if it means we can bring back NMSU to get divisions.

They've had great support for football games in San Marcos the past few years, last week included. Would like to play them in basketball too.

A million times yes. Y'all have been great members in our time in the WAC and SBC. I am sad to see you go and would have loved to get your basketball team in the conference. Glad we set up a h/h in football. You will be missed.

If the CFP payout had remained at $12 million I would have been fine with making NMSU an all sport member IF we could have found a good addition for #12/14 that was closer to the main footprint of the league. The only problem is the only other schools that would make sense are JMU or Liberty which have their own issues that have been discussed at length.
