If i saw it another way I would say so. But I really like Davenport and Brewton. There was, in my opinion, lots to like.

Now of course if we lose 10 to 15 games, I will say I was wrong. And being right isn’t the most important thing to me. I honestly am giving my thoughts about what I think we can be. I really like the talent we have. I’m still looking at the schedule and will give a prediction before the Alabama game, I actually wanted to wait till after the Alabama game to predict our record, simply because I wanted another opportunity to see these guys play. But I will post my prediction soon and if I see something after watching the Alabama game that makes me want to change a few games I will.

Joe1, I am with you in that I was very encouraged by what I saw at the Lemoyne-Owen game. I'm not that into making a W-L prediction, but I think that we may have a pretty good season. I saw Lou Strasberg last week while picking up my basketball tickets and his quote was "our basketball team is going to be better than people think".

What bothers me is that so many Tiger fans appear to have a vested interest in the Tigers doing poorly this season. Some gave up their season tickets "until the Tigers do better". Some hated the Tubby hire, have been extremely vocal about it, and want to be proven correct. A few still love Pastner so much they can't stomach Tubby. Winning is the only thing that will cure that, I suppose.

i intend to be there for the Tigers at all home games and pull for them to win. I can't help what others do.

Your second paragraph is sad to read if indeed all of that is true. But your last sentence in that same paragraph is correct...if we win the fans will come back, and maybe new ones will take the place of the super bitter ones. But people can’t stay away when you’re winning. Again, I’ve said this once already, if one likes Tiger basketball, I encourage them to go to the games because you will like what you see. Period.

And clearly, I’m more optimistic than many posters here. But I really like what I saw. The talent is there and I have to go with what I’m seeing and believe. I’m certainly not going to put down double digit losses when I don’t think we will lose that many because several here are doing so. We are deep and we have talent.

Honestly, I think we tend to get hung up on who is “right” or “wrong”. We are on a messageboard expressing opinions, not at the ER. 03-wink

I don't know why you have to take it personally or make it a personal matter. If a person disagrees with your continual attacks on the coach and team then you seem to think it is a personal attack on you.

The disagreement is over how well people think the team will do and why.

Personally, I have gone on record to say I like this team and the job that Coach Smith and staff have done in putting it together. I like the team's talent and desire.

We are bigger, faster, deeper and more athletic than last year. In addition we have balance in the roster composition, that is we have size inside, which we did not have and we have guards and wings that can really play. Also, we seem to be much more unselfish, which was a huge problem last year.

I continue to believe that we will win 20 plus games and challenge for a postseason opportunity in either the NIT or the NCAA tourney.

You appear confused about the nature of taking sometime personally. I have been subject to scores of unprovoked personal attacks and phantom motive assignments after expressing my opinions. I can provide you a sample list or you can take my word for it.

My prediction is...

25-6 (if we lose to Alabama then I think it will be 24-7)

I think we lose 6 to 9 games, but as of right now I think 9 is too many.

I have us losing to Louisville, at Cincinnati, at UCF, at Tulsa, at SMU, at UConn

Conference record of 13-5, good for 3rd or 4th place

Win two games in the conference tournament to finish 27-7 or 26-8

I like your optimism.

If the teamwork/chemistry thing with this year's squad moves in the right direction, your prediction could be pretty close.

Good point. Let’s all focus on the messege and the team.

I do not see a high level of talent on our team. A team with talent (one 5 star and four or five 4 stars) is Alabama. The superior talent advantage and an NBA caliber coach are the primary reasons IMO Alabama will be favored and likely win on Friday. Do you agree?

And according to at least one player from last year's team, your first line describes the problem with that team, too. Fortunately for us, he's still on the team and likes this one much better.

You’re right about team chemistry. Obviously nothing is a given either way. The way I look at it is we have 12 tough/hard games and I’m thinking we win half of those or come close. I don’t see us losing all 12 of the tough games or even 10 of them. But we will see. Hopefully we have great chemistry and stay healthy. The players do seem to like each other, at least that’s the way Davenport and Brewton sounded on the post game show.

I understand, but my question was about the game against Alabama. FWIW, I think we will lose.

14 losses? Wow. Just wow.

I predicted 17-14, but I'm pretty conservative, if not pessimistic, about predictions. I suspect I could change my prediction upwards at this pint, but I'll wait till we face an actual DI opponent. I picked Alabama before I saw them play, and I still do, but if they actually do have to sit one or two of their important cogs for that game, it may end up being one of several L's where I have to own up to underestimating our team.

This is a rebuilding year. Anybody who doesn't think so is sadly mistaken, but anybody who thinks we'll have a losing record is a . . . well, let's stick with the AUP and say a little off on their assessment.
Maybe I’m wrong. And I have no problems saying I’m wrong when I am. It’s easy. That said, I don’t view this team as a rebuilding year, I think our talent is better than that. I agree. I think we are much better than predicted - but could be wrong - & I'll admit it if so at the end of the season. Remember back when Finch & crew got an 12 seed (?) in the tourney & took it to the finals against Walton & UCLA. The "experts" didn't think too much of our team then either. Of course this is a different time with predictions on a different level but I still reserve judgement until we've played a few games although what I have seen of the players on the team, in person or TV and the GA recruits in high school, I think we are much stronger than predicted by most media. Ironic, GC was drinking the media koolaid until he saw the team play one game & has changed his mind, amazing.

I do not see a high level of talent on our team. A team with talent (one 5 star and four or five 4 stars) is Alabama. The superior talent advantage and an NBA caliber coach are the primary reasons IMO Alabama will be favored and likely win on Friday. Do you agree?

I disagree. I just eye witnessed plenty of talent.

Good to know. Do you think we will win against 'Bama? An upset would really help jump start fan interest.

I posted my prediction for the season in this thread.

I understand, but my question was about the game against Alabama. FWIW, I think we will lose.

My post in this thread show what and where I think the losses will be. Go back and look.
