Also in that article, UAB will be hosting the 2019 CUSA softball tournament!

Good to hear Woodfin has expressed support, now just need to see some action.

When he mentions an architect being hired, is he talking about the drawings that Populus already released or is that new work?

"Ingram, who specializes in fundraising, has led the Blazers in raising more than $44 million in cash and pledges for their athletics programs in the past two years, said Jerome Morgan Jr., president of the Hoover chamber."

Ummm, yeah.

I'm more interested in the outlook for Clark's new contract.

It's in Mark's court and has been for sone time. Looks like our AD may need another push from the stakeholders again.

This is talking about an on-campus stadium, correct?

Until Fess St. John and Joe Espy (at a minimum) leave the BoT or die, the OCS is simply not going to be allowed. I'll happily take a state of the art home at the BJCC while we continue to grow the fan base. Our time will come.

I’ll just be happy when they stop obstructing the contract. It’s gonna be so easy for those bastards to say “See they still only averaged [arbitrary lowball number] despite winning 8 games!”

+ 5 AGREE. However the problem runs deeper than just the dying off of a few old farts on the BoT. The SOM and its researchers is THE campus power at UAB, The SOM believes in our agreement to limit the discretionary spending (deficit) on sports to 15 million. So in the medium term funding from within UAB will also not be possible. As Band Dad states grow the fan base and when the time comes we be able to finance what we want. IMHO the BJCC stadium should be just the ticket to allow for such growth

The SOM doesn't have any problem though mooching off of the increase in funds to the Campaign For UAB due to football's return though.

Until we get to the point when "shovel meets dirt", all 3 new stadium concepts remain in play. The most likely to be built right now is the BJCC open air stadium since it is the smaller and cheapest of the 3 while having fewer obstacles (like the OCS has with the BOT and its allied UAB administrators). If, as generally expected at this time the BJCC option is built, it will be UABs venue for many decades - perhaps 100 years. In that case, I hope we are delighted with it and its amenities.

SOM need to be kicked in the nuts any way.

I will give credit where it is due. Good job by Mark. That said get the contract done. You are holding it up. If you ness this up we will be at your office with torches and pitchforks.

Without the kick they delivered to Ray's nuts in December 2014, we'd be talking about our chances to win the Atlantic Sun auto-bid instead of football.

I think we're starting to get off the rails if we start talking this way. I'm pretty proud of UAB's research and academic reputation and value it higher than football. That said, I think there's room for athletics AND research (just look at universities like Stanford, Georgia Tech, Cal, etc) but saying the School of Medicine needs a kick in the nuts and to sit down and shut up is how you end up with an environment like Tuscaloosa.

Does anyone have any evidence to support this SOM - $15M claim? It just sounds like BS to me.

He is not the final say on the contract. Why is he held responsible then.

It's pretty obvious UAB fans don't have that kind of power even today
