Utter nonsense. You despise Tubby because your favorite was pushed out. You could not be more loyal to josh than his own wife, unless you are his wife. Which would explain the love affair. Of course it would seem logical for you to take your love for the future Hall of Fame coach 03-lmfao to a Georgia Tech message board.

I don't despise Smith. I do despise his work effort. I think he is in dereliction of duty, so to speak. That being said, I sure hope that I am wrong, and we win the national championship under Tubby.

As for Pastner---23.5 wins per year for lets say 30 years just might get him in HOF. He might win a National championship one day as well. All about time.

By the way, I pull for the TIGERS only. OK -also whoever is playing the COMMUNISTS and JUDAS at the time. Ok and I do hope Pastner does well. GO TIGERS!!!!
If Pastner stays at GT his days of 23.5 wins a season are over.

RE: Tubby - We will be one of the best scoring teams in the AAC
Why should anyone believe Tubby when he says we will have one of the best scoring teams in our conference? It makes a lot more sense to believe a person who lives several hundred miles away and hasn’t been in the gym with our guys for one second, rather than take Tubby’s word for it :banghead

So, one of the best is top 3, right?

Top 4 if there is a tie, I guess.

I want to see this happen.

Some people think that we will be one of the lowest scoring teams in the league meaning bottom 3.

RE: Tubby - We will be one of the best scoring teams in the AAC
That will be interesting considering there doesn't seem to be any reliable post scorer and no good three point shooters. Generally, it's pretty easy to defend when you don't have to extend a defense or pack it in.

Perhaps Tubby is just going to run, run, run and play games (both offensively and defensively) in the 80's.

Maybe it’s possible that Tubby knows some things about his players that we don’t or at least not aware of.

It’s either this ^ or Tubby is talking coach speak type stuff. I don’t view Tubby as a liar. As a matter of fact he’s a high character guy, so lying wouldn’t be his thing. Although I think there is one poster here that has called him a liar. I don’t agree with that poster.
As for Tubby’s statement about how we will be a good scoring team... I don’t think he would say that if he didn’t believe it. I wouldn’t think a coach would come out just before the season starts and claim to be a high scoring team if he knew deep down we would struggle to score points. So it brings me back to...maybe he knows some things we don’t, maybe he has seen enough in practice that makes him comfortable to say it.

Good one 04-cheers
That’s why I posted the people who live several states away and haven’t been in the gym should know more about the team than Tubby.

Maybe the coaching staff sees in practices that they may actually have reliable post scorers and three point shooter (s).
I'd wager that he likely knows a bit more about what his players can and can't do than any of us on a message board.
We'll all find out soon enough but I think I'd trust his judgement a bit more than I'd trust the ramblings of any of us here.
Maybe that's just me though.

Really .00001% of the fanbase was upset that Pastner left, so I have no idea why people say stuff like this. It is perfectly reasonable to dislike Tubby based on the lousy job he has done since he got here. Signing Harris will be a nice small step forward.

One thing that is not open to dispute is that the defense the team played for most of last year was a near miracle. We didn't have a legitimate D1 defender at the 4/5 the entire year, had no depth, and were individually average, but we played very good team defense. That lineup should have been abused by all of our opponents last year and it wasn't.

Tubby is saying that we will be high scoring and uses the word firepower. If this is true we will be a very good team by the end of the year.

I heard he said we would be one of the best outside shooting teams in the country. Unfortunately, all of our games are going to be played inside.

RE: Tubby - We will be one of the best scoring teams in the AAC
Quotes from Tubby last preseason and evals provided by staff:

Keon:

"2. Smith continues to rave about Dedric Lawson, whom he compared to Dirk Nowitzki at his last media appearance. This time, he called him “a first-round draft pick.” He reiterated that Jeremiah Martin would be the starting point guard if the season began today, but said nice things about the freshman point guard, Keon Clergeot. “He’s an outstanding outside shooter,” Smith said. “Keon Clergeot can really knock it down.”

Clergeot shot 36% from the field and 31% from three.

At the open practice, Dedric Lawson looked like his usual smooth self. Clergeot looked like he’ll give Martin a tussle for the starting job. Christian Kessee had a productive day. (at least he had one in practice)Jimario Rivers flashed some athleticism. On the other hand, K.J. Lawson is still working his way back from foot surgery, and Jake McDowell seemed bothered by a leg injury.

Jimario:

Nichols expects new Tiger coach Tubby Smith to appreciate what Rivers will furnish. Rivers says he’ll bring defensive intensity and shot-blocking.

“Tubby has dealt with players like Tayshaun Prince (at Kentucky),” Nichols said. “Jimario is in that mode — a super-athletic kid who plays real hard and knows how to defend at a high level.” “Jimario knows how to win,” Nichols said. “He was highly recruited. He has a quick-twitch first step that helps him get around people, and he just knows how to play, he knows how to put himself in position to make plays. There’s no doubt in my mind he’ll be able to help Memphis throughout the year.”

Comparing Rivers to Tayshaun, jeez.

Chad:

Chad Rykhoek, senior: A 6-11, 230-pound center and graduate transfer, Rykhoek has been out of basketball since 2014, when he left Baylor for medical reasons. The former top-150 prospect hasn’t played a minute of college basketball due to multiple hip injuries, but he and Memphis’ coaching staff believe he’s healthy enough now to contribute. The reports I’ve gotten from workouts on Rykhoek are that he has excellent hands and a good feel for the game. His perimeter shooting skills could help give the Tigers a nice high-low look with Rykhoek and Lawson if the staff can keep him healthy. But that’s a big “if” considering his history.

Randall:

Craig Randall, sophomore: Randall averaged 2.2 points and 1.3 rebounds in limited action last season (7.9 minutes per game), yet he still managed to get off 43 3-pointers (the fifth-most 3-point attempts on the team last season). He made just eight of them (18.6 percent). If Randall is going to play a role this season, he's going to have to be a better long-range shooter. The reports I've gotten back this preseason are that he's shot well in workouts, but Memphis needs to see it in games. If Randall can become a knockdown shooter, he could also see time as a reserve shooting guard.

He shot 29% from three last year.

Kessee:

Christian Kessee, senior: A 6-2 graduate transfer from Coppin State, Kessee will provide scoring and experience on the perimeter for a Memphis squad that lost its top three perimeter players from last season to graduation and transfer. Kessee’s forte is long-range shooting. He made 88 3-pointers at Coppin State last season (which would’ve been the third-most in a season at Memphis), finishing the year as the team’s leading scorer at 14.6 points per game. He averaged 16.8 points and shot 44.3 percent from 3 over Coppin State’s final 17 games last season. Kessee isn’t a great ballhandler, so he’ll probably see more time at shooting guard than at the point. Expect him to play major minutes, though, because of his ability to spread the floor with his shooting. With defenses likely to collapse inside fairly regularly on star forward Dedric Lawson, Kessee’s shooting, particularly off kickouts, should be a big weapon for the Tigers.

He shot 24% from three and only played more than 10 minutes three times last year.

Basically people have to say great things about the team. Not knocking that, but just using it in the context of tempering expectations based upon people who have to say good things.

Sorta like every spring training in baseball--the number of guys who come in claiming to be "in the best shape of my life." It's comical.
