2019 Football Schedule
It's not good that we had to schedule two FCS teams. I understand one, especially as a brand new FBS team.

2019 FOOTBALL
Syracuse
@ Louisiana
Buffalo
Hampton
New Mexico
@ New Mexico St.
Maine
@ Rutgers
@ UMass
@ BYU
@ Virginia
New Mexico St.

RE: 2019 Football Schedule
Two FCS schools are disappointing but we had almost no time to get a schedule done. It is possible something shakes up and changes. I am not a fan of the four straight away games to end the season before New Mexico State. Looking at the schedule though, there isn't a reason we shouldn't be bowl eligible. That is hardly murderer's row.

Two FCS games means we have to go 7-5 to get bowl eligible. One FCS game will be every year. Occasionally the schedule will have a year with two but this won't be super common. Overall it's a great schedule and even the FCS games are decent matchups. Maine is decent and an FCS team from va is good.

Schedule looks manageable, if there is a good coaching staff in place.

Guys, if not enough teams, NCAA typically grant waivers to 6-6 teams with two fcs wins. NCAA does everything to avoid taking 5-7 teams.

I agree, msm96wolf. I am actually rather jazzed about how things worked out for our first year of bowl eligibility. And a trip to Lafayette? Laissez le bon temps rouler! Best Cajun dining on the planet in that city.

BINGO...

The way we've been playing & coached lately, I'm not all that hopeful we go bowling our first year. Have we all forgotten the teams we've lost to in the last 4 - 5 years?

Looks like there are two bye weeks. Four road game in a row is hard but the bye week is helpful.

08/31 vs Syracuse
09/07 @ Louisiana Lafayette
09/14 vs Buffalo
09/21 vs Hampton
09/28 vs New Mexico
10/05 @ New Mexico State
10/12 OPEN
10/19 vs Maine
10/26 @ Rutgers
11/02 @ UMass
11/09 @ BYU
11/16 OPEN
11/23 @ Virginia
11/30 vs New Mexico State

Slyfox if you come to the Liberty Game when NCSU and Liberty play, you are more than welcome to stop by our tailgate spot. If I am still alive in 2020. 03-wink I would be glad to meet you. If you are ever at Carter-Finley for a game before then, the offer still holds. :)

I appreciate the offer, msm96wolf. But Raleigh is more than a hop, skip and jump from Houston.

Do any of you know what became of the game we owe you? When we backed out of the 2015 game both AD's said the it would be tentatively rescheduled for 2019. Since then there have been no more than crickets making some noise about completing the contract. Possibly JMU bought out of the deal, but I really don't have a clue.

There probably isn't much desire for the game from LU's side. Y'all are too good so no need to pay for a potential loss. We will call Norfolk State instead.

I sincerely doubt that is the reason. LU wouldn't pass up the chance to fill the stadium with JMU fans even if Liberty was expected to lose.

I don't have a clue as to why the LU-JMU game hasn't been rescheduled. Maybe there are just a conflict of dates and LU asked JMU to move it back as they needed to get their FBS schedule set and wanted as much flexibility as they could get.

I understand what you are saying but you fail to acknowledge money. That would mean Liberty would choose fans over an easy win(to try to get to 6 wins) and be willing to pay 300-500k for it.

Agree. The likely lump loses beginning next year LU can expect does not need to include one home loss to the current premier FCS team. JMU would be more pumped for this game than LU was in playing App St in Boone.

LU would be wise to not include JMU at this time with the Dukes riding their wave of FCS success. It would only benefit JMU and only provide LU a well attended game. The perception of the schools would be compared, and at this time, LU would be the inferior team, although FBS, and JMU while on it's current crest, would be the perception winner.

RE: 2019 Football Schedule
I thought I read on A Sea of Red that Liberty bought out the JMU game. Could be wrong though. I don't think it's wise for LU to play JMU in the near future while we're 1-A and they're 1-AA. JMU is better than many G5 schools and probably/maybe obviously us than us now, and we can't risk to losing to a 1-AA school in our first few years. Beating them probably can helps us with bowl eligibility due to their pedigree and number of scholarships, but losing to them would be catastrophic. We should wait to play them until we're at the stage where we should beat them. My guess is that ADIM thinks this as well.

There is no difference between beating them and beating Savannah State for bowl eligibility. LU can schedule one FCS team per year and it counts towards the 6 needed. Scheduling two would require 7 to become bowl eligible. The FCS game should be a tune up game. Give me someone like Delaware State instead.

It's James Madison, not Alabama. We'd be favored as an FBS team. Do you know why losing to them would be embarrassing? It's because we should beat them.

There is an exception to that. JMU was favored in it's game and victory over ECU. So all FBS teams are not always favored over FCS schools. Now should FBS teams beat
FCS teams, stats and logic says most always say yes. FBS teams in down years, and FCS teams riding a success wave are exceptions
