Well there is Nick as the replacement for Disney. They have better shows in my opinion. Not to mention more stable teens unlike the ones on Disney.

This is where it would be helpful to know what amount of Sling subscribers have the Blue package without Disney vs the Orange with Disney.

Not many really care about the Disney channel itself. When I said Disney I was referring to it as the parent company of all ESPN properties, ABC, A&E, and Disney channels proper. It's not just ESPN channels at stake here. Disney is taking an all-or-nothing approach to all of their cable (and ABC-over-cable) properties.

Sprout tv is now Universal kids which is NBC kids programming as an alternative. NBC does not forced higher rates for all their programming. Nick is part of Viacom the parent company of CBS.

Not so fast... kids care about Disney's cartoons, and parents care about their kids. Many of the most popular kid shows (Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh, etc. for the little ones, and shows like Avengers, Phineas and Ferb, etc. for the older kids).

I know in the case of my own family, we were looking for a small bundle with both ESPN and Disney Junior. I doubt we are all that uncommon.

and Tweens love some of the Disney shows as well.

Also for some places(and NYC is one of them btw)- this also includes the ABC Network channel. That goes without saying is gigantic.

The thing that gives Disney the power it has is that they have some of the most popular content spread across a wide demographic range & that includes movies. Now that they are taking most of their movies in house they could in theory package access to some of that content on demand as a part of their subscription as well as offering it direct to the consumer

Sling had close to a million subs before they started the fox centric package . So roughly 50% or more of their 2 million subs have ESPN

Apparently Wall Street is happy with Disney after months of negative news

Next up are Verizon, Time Warner (Spectrum) and AT&T.

Yeah, Clay Travis. He said the SECN would print money when he was a blog writer for an SEC market, and now that he's with FOX it's doom and gloom. What a putz! And moreover, how can an audience's intellect be so vapid that they should still watch or listen?

How bad is FOX coverage? I despise ESPN talking heads politicizing issues while I'm trying to escape them by watching a game. I want to jack slap some of their idiocy. They call teams by the wrong names and nicknames and I'm sitting there wondering how such incompetence can be tolerated. I mean really they only have two groups in front of them. They have to have low interest in their work to screw up like that. So then I turn over to a FOX game and it's worse. That's how bad FOX coverage is!

The only thing I don't like about my HD is the delay between it and Auburn radio announcers (about a 5 second delay). So I hear the results of the play before I ever see it. Otherwise I'd mute the TV and listen to our announcers.

If people are turning off sports its because these jackazzes won't let us use them for what they were intended, entertainment and an escape from the issues of the day. Really, sports broadcasting shouldn't be rocket science. Kurt Gowdy and Peewee Reese got it right for years as did Dandy Don and Howard the Mouth.

Sponge Bob Square Pants is more popular than any of the Disney shows. Disney's highest rated show was Hannah Montana. Since that show is only on reruns? The other shows do not last long. The ABC reboot of Boy Meets World on Disney as Girl Meets World only lasted 3 seasons. Freeform canceled a lot of shows as well. Their shows are lousy in ratings.

We will soon see how much demand their is for a non sports skinny bundle when viacom,A&E etc launch its service late this year or early next year. I personally think their is some demand but I doubt this service attracts major subscribers

We aren't talking about shows, we're talking about networks - the combination of all shows. Disney holds up just fine.

It really is strange that I know all FBS school, their conference, preferred name, and mascot. However, someone whose job is to cover college football does not know them. They only know about the Top 10 schools then after that nothing. I will give credit to some of the college gameday guys, they do know teams, coaches, etc more then anyone else.

A&E Networks (which owns A&E, History, Lifetime and several more networks) is a 50-50 joint venture of Disney and Hearst. Sound familiar? ESPN is an 80-20 join venture of Disney and Hearst. They may be willing to participate in some bundles in which ESPN does not, but only with the OK of both of ESPN's owners. If they're allowing this, I'm guessing that their market research shows that it is not a significant threat to the moneymaker.

I agree & was aware that Disney owns part of A&E. I just don't see a mostly scripted skinny bundle having a major impact when some of their content is available thru Netflix,Amazon, etc.

And I agree with that. Once you go OTT for scripted programming, on demand services like Hulu and Netflix make a whole lot more sense than linear channels.

A&E would best be served by running live P D every night.

The deal is done. By the way, they are going to carry some new thing - The ACC Network. Does anybody know what that is about??

Yes. It's called a contractual obligation.
