Didn't they learn their lesson from the NHL and the NFL?

Doesn't fix anything because they are still taking half of the players from the eastern conference.... so what's the point?

RE: NBA All-Star Game goes to captains
Take 6-7 players from each division, and let them play a tournament. For example:

1) Pacific vs. Atlantic
2) Southwest vs. Southeast
3) Game 1 winner vs. Central
4) Game 2 winner vs. Northwest
5) Game 3 winner vs. Game 4 winner

Each "game" would be 12 minutes long, and 4th quarter timing rules apply. Of course with six divisions this would mean a couple of byes, but there could be an equitable way to dole those out.

Tournament? No one cares about the ASG as it is, whose gonna care about a tournament?

It'd be better if they just replaced it with a mid-season awards show or just left it at the gimmicky games before the ASG.

Should have just left the ASG the way it was. The entertainment value in the game is just watching a bunch of stars play a no-defense game for fun that ends up 193-191.

No one will care more or less about it if the "captains" draft the players in the game, and because the fans are still voting for the players, and there's still a quota requiring that 50% of the players are from the weaker Eastern Conference instead of just picking the best 24 players in the league at the time, there's absolutely no reason to not leave it the way it was as a West vs. East game.

A better idea is the US versus the World or rotating between the American NBA All-Stars and the stars from Europe, Africa, South America and Asia (including Australia). That would be way more interesting.

The NHL has tried that, I think. It's still just another way to divide up star players from within the same league.

A game between an all-star team from the Euroleague and one from the NBA would be fun, though the NBA would never, ever do it.

Let's break out the nuclear option: realignment!

Northern Conference
West - Portland, Utah, Sacramento, Golden State, Denver
Central - Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Minnesota
East - Toronto, Philadelphia, New York, Brooklyn, Boston

Southern Conference
West - Lakers, Clippers, Phoenix, San Antonio, Houston
Central - Dallas, Oklahoma City, Memphis, New Orleans, Indiana
East - Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Orlando, Washington

The NBA would see it as a no-win game -- expected to win, embarrassed if they lose.

But if it ever happened I think we'd find there are a lot of pretty good players in the Euroleague.

Obviously the Euros are skilled and could win but the US is superior and shouldn't buy in for multiple reasons.

No, the world team get curbed stomped, which is why they've gone to the pick me format, b cause the East doesn't have any stars.
